21. In 1578 Moroccan troops defeated a Portuguese army on Moroccan soil. Reports written by Portuguese contemproraries report the defeat but omit mention of the fact that King Sebastian of Portugal was killed in the battle. Such omissions cannot simply be the result of ignorance of Sebastian's death. Sebastian's death is not even mentioned in the battle accounts written by two captured Portuguese officers while waiting to be ransomed from a Moroccan prison. These two officers actually shared their cells with the Portuguese soldiers who identified the king's body to Moroccan officials. The omissions therefore had to have had a psychological cause: the Portuguese evidently found Sebastian's death so humiliating that they could not bring themselves to write about it.

The discussion about the two Portuguese officers advances the argument by:
A) providing grounds for eliminating an alternative explanation.
E) offering grounds for doubting the reliability of historical reports that conflict with the argument's main conclusion.

A or E?????? and why not the other?  :)

has anyone here, either as an undergraduate or graduate, published articles/essays in scholarly journals? if so, how did u incorporate that into your resume? im speaking for the case when one has only ONE publication... it'd be kinda tedious to have a separate section with the heading 'Publications" no?? should i include it in the honors/awards-section of the resume? any suggestions?

on one of the drills on p156 of LR bible:
9. Unless they find an eyewitness and put the defendent on the stand, they will lose the case.

according to the bible, the proper way to diagram this is:
if: lose case --> then: find eyewitness AND put def on stand
or the contrapositve:
if: not find eyewit Or not put def on stand --> then: not lose case

isn't that incorrect? shouldn't it be:
if: not lose case --> then: find eyewitness AND put def on stand
or
if: not find eyewit OR not put def on stand --> then: lose case

unless + multiple conditions is somewhat confusing... any clarification would be appreciated, thanks.
