Law School Admissions / Can you change the letters of recommendation?
« on: March 19, 2005, 04:32:58 PM »
So this admission cycle sucks for me. I am going to retake in June and get all apps out as early as allowed. I was wondering if I could change the recommendations that are on file? I only have 2, and by the time a reapply will have 2 new ones, like stronger than one I have on file now. Can I get rid of that one, and replace it with these two, or am I able to request that that rec not be sent to any school. It was in before they switched to new school speficic option for recs.

I know there are so many different positions for attorneys in federal and local government after law school, but was wondering how tough some of those jobs are to get. I would assume that being a public defender or working at the DAs office probally isnt to hard, while getting in at the FBI is extremely tough. Does anyone have insight this issue? Does law school reputation matter as much if you want to work in government for a while.

Also, for those of you that work at the USPTO, I submitted an application for a position as a patent examiner (biotech art) and didnt hear back. They are done their hiring, so i think mostly PhDs were offered the position. Would a JD help getting the patent examiner position, especially if I would be working in a lab for 4 years while in LS?

Was in chicago today, and drove by JMLS on my way home. I didnt go inside or talk to anyone because I was in a hurry. It is the only school that I would like to go this fall, because my numbers suck. It seemed really small and dumpy. Only one small building, but right next to the Chicago Bar. Has anyone seen inside the school? I was really suprised at how crappy the facility looked.

I was already WL at Whittier part time and accepted for the TAP at Widener DE. I was originally thinking that these two schools would be acceptances (150, 3.1 Biochem, current PhD student). I really want to go to John Marshall, a fellow T4 institution. Based on the two schools that I have heard from, and the higher standards of John Marshall comparred to these 2, is it safe to say that I am not likely getting in this cycle? (applied PT as well)   :-\

I dont know if thats what its called, but its similar to Widener's TAP program, where you take some classes in the summer to demonstrate you can handle law school if you arent directly accepted. I know its by invite only, but was wondering if anyone knew anything much about it, such as numbers of people that have entered it in the past. Also, they said that some people in the wait list may get off the waitlist if they opt to begin in January instead. Anyone of people that have done either?

I want to go to school in Chicao, however, my LSAT sucks, so I only applied to John Marshall part time. I would not be suprised, however, if I was rejected. I would like to work in a firm while in law school. I want to do this for the experience and contacts. As of now, i am not very qualified for many positions. Therefore I was thinking about doing a quick 8 month paralegal program at Loyola U-Chicago, so that I could work as a paralegal while in law school part time. It would cost about #10k, and I think it worth the investment. Plus it would probably pay better while in law school than many other jobs I could get. Any one have any imput on this idea. THanks, B

Im looking for a board similar to this for business school. Has anyone come across one?

Choosing the Right Law School / Feeling Defeated

So I was waitlisted at a T4 part time program today whos numbers are 3.16-2.68    152-147. I had a 150/3.1 in a tough major, graduate school, nice work and research experience. This was my first response from a law school and it really sucks. Now I am not too sure that I will get in anywhere. Maybe Law school just isnt in the cards for me!

Acceptances, Denials, and Waitlists / Waitlisted at Whittier

I feel like an utter and complete loser. As if bombing the LSAT wasnt enough. I was just waitlisted at Whittier. 150/3.1 BS Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, current PhD student in Genetics. Im a little suprise because i applied to the part time program. This shoots down my hope of going to John Marshall in Chicago then.
