resume or just bring several copies of the updated resume with me? I accepted a judicial externship last week and haven't spoken with the firm since the week before.
I was thinking that in doing so I could inquire as to who I will be interviewing with because they never told me previously. Although I expect that I will probably be meeting with a lot of their attys... 3

When a firm (out of state) calls you and invites you to come interview at their office based on a mail/online app as opposed to a screening interview at OCI, is that still considered a "call back" so as to put you in the same candidate pool as those who were literally called "back" from OCI?
I am heading out to one of these next week and wonder if I will come in on an even playing field with those who were called back from OCI... 4

Top 10%, Law Review, split 1L summer with 2 firms (one defense and one primarily plaintiff's) and am targeting Dallas after graduation (where I grew up). I'll do my best to answer any questions you have about 1L or what I know about the Dallas market.

Does this stat mean the amount of firm profit attributable to each partner on average or what each partner takes home at the end of the year on average?

I've been told by a couple profs that roughly 5-10 pages is what employers are looking for. My question is, has anyone sent two shorter samples that collectively fall within that page limit range?
I have some Motions for Summary Judgment from my first job this summer that I would like to use, but the argument portions of them are no more than 4 pages. I'd like to use one of them and then 4-5 pages of a predictive memo I wrote in LRW. I thought this might be good because it will provide a bit of a contrast (1 from work, 1 from school and one persuasive, one predictive) while still not being more than one would be willing to glance at. Is this practice frowned upon? Thanks for any feedback. 7

I finally understand what everyone told me about coming into my 1L year about, "the worse you feel about the exam the better you probably did."
I would have bet my student loans that i did no better than ride the curve (on the sunny side of things) in Torts this last semester. It was the most ridiculous, convoluted fact pattern I could have ever expected and the multiple choice literally made me question my career prospects. I log-on this afternoon and somehow he gave me a High A. I have absolutely no idea how it happened...all I can do is be thankful. Anyone else? 9

General Board / Billing rate to salary ratio??« on: February 18, 2009, 06:34:17 PM »Is there anyway to get a bead on what an associate at a firm makes based on what they bill per hour? Is there like a standard percentage of the rate that they get? I am trying to figure out what starting associates make at a firm that has offered me for this summer...they are not on NALP or anything... |
