I have been neglecting the board since I left the Pre-Law discussion, but now I hope for help.

The dilemma: summer job at the U.S. Attorney's Office (Civil Divison, Eastern District) or at a Magistrate Judge's chambers or at a District Judge's chambers (Southern District)?

What are your thoughts?  [Please don't tell me "depends on your interests", etc.  I want real OPINIONS!!]  Both internships / externships are obviously unpaid but will offer credit for the time, and location/commute is not an issue.

If you were making the choice, which would you choose and why?
Is one job any more "impressive" than the other (resume-wise)?

Law School Admissions / transcripts- study abroad
« on: November 17, 2004, 08:57:56 AM »
Hey everyone.. I'm back after a brief hiatus. A question for those of you that studied abroad:

I studied abroad at the London School of Economics last year.. my Cornell transcript notes "London School of Economics & Political Science" for the 2003-2004 academic year, and lists the grades I earned, although these grades aren't calculated into my cumulative GPA.

This morning, I received a "Notice of Unacknowledged Transcript" email from LSDAS, indicating that I "failed" to list the LSE as an institution I attended.  From what I understood, its not necessary to request a transcript from a study abroad program when your home-campus transcript indicates that the coursework was carried out under the sponsorship of your undergraduate college. When I called to straighten things out, I was told that I had to go back to Cornell to change my transcript from "London School of Economics" to something like "Cornell Abroad"...  ???  I called the Advising office at my school and they had never heard of anything like this.

Anyone else been in a similar situation?  What do I do?

Law School Admissions / Getting into law school is ROUGH

I saw one of the prelaw advisors at Cornell today... thought I'd share some numbers with y'all... Sorry that I'm only giving schools on my list. Format is: # of Cornell students that applied, # admitted, Mean LSAT and GPA for those admitted

Data is provided by LSAC for Cornellians (seniors and alumni) who applied to law school for admission in 2003. (She gave me the #s from 2002 as well, not much of a difference).

203 Cornell students applied, 18 admitted, Mean LSAT 171.0, Mean GPA 3.80

253 Cornell students applied, 43 admitted, Mean LSAT 167.1, Mean GPA 3.67

134 Cornell students applied, 16 admitted, Mean LSAT 170.3, Mean GPA 3.97

236 Cornell students applied, 36 admitted, Mean LSAT 170.0, Mean GPA 3.81

89 Cornell students applied, 5 admitted, Mean LSAT 168.8, Mean GPA 3.96

115 Cornell students applied, 11 admitted, Mean LSAT 167.5, Mean GPA 3.74

My "safeties" disturbed me.  They have some pretty high rejection rates:

259 Cornell students applied, 67 admitted, Mean LSAT 164.6, Mean GPA 3.52

148 Cornell students applied, 72 admitted, Mean LSAT 161.1, Mean GPA 3.39

Law School Admissions / stuff IS missing from LSACD on the Web
« on: August 11, 2004, 05:46:36 PM »
Someone yesterday said that info disappeared from his/her apps... I did 10 apps last night and went back to look at them today, and things are missing!!  Random pieces (like street address? sometimes name of a school) here and there.  And I'm POSITIVE that I was saving after every page.

I just re-filled in all the missing parts, but this better not happen again.

Is anyone experiencing this?  I type in my address and it takes like 2 minutes for it to show up on the screen....

I noticed the ads on this site for Essay Edge, an essay editing service.  Has anyone on LSD ever used Essay Edge before?
