Transferring / Transferapps database
« on: May 22, 2010, 05:07:28 PM »
If anyone is interested, the transferapps database I put together last year is still online.
(Set Cycle = 2010 for just this year's data, 2009 for last year's data.)

Filter data at the top and enter data at the bottom. I modified the structure a bit so that it can be used for the 2010 cycle as well. My goal was to have something like this replace the transferapps database. DabbleDB is good, but I couldn't figure out how to get things setup the way I wanted to, so I just left it like it is. They may have added new features in the last year that would make it easier to work with if someone is interested in picking this up.

I also created a separate database for notification methods and timing here:
(Filter this page for 2010 cycle by just putting 2010 in the Decision Date field at top)

Anyone heard anything from Chicago?  In the past, they started releasing decisions in late June or early July.

Has anyone else, who applied to UT, started receiving financial aid information prior to receiving an acceptance?

I quickly put together an app to track law school transfers that is probably a bit easier to use (user editable) than the yahoo database and doesn't require you to have a yahoo account.

Current Law Students / Computer problems during exams
« on: June 22, 2009, 03:02:03 PM »
How does your school handle technical issues either with the required exam software or other aspects of student's laptops?  Does a student with a malfunctioning computer just get a shrug and a bluebook, are they allowed to move to a computer lab to finish or some other option?

At least one or two classmates from each of my classes had issues starting the exam software or had problems during the exam requiring them to hand write their exams.

Job Search / Transferring, targetting Dallas
« on: June 15, 2009, 05:33:05 PM »
With no ties to the state other than my wife lived in Houston as a child, is UT the clear (only) choice here?  Would Chicago, UVA, Berkeley, Duke, GULC or Vanderbilt make any sense if Dallas is where I wanted to end up next summer?

Anybody done it or know those who have?  How has the experience been?

Anyone that will be in attendance?

Do you have access to requirements/preferences for OCI for firms in St. Louis?  If so, would you mind posting them or sending them to me in a PM?  I am trying to compare the strength of UIUC in St. Louis to schools like WUSTL and MU.

Choosing the Right Law School / Illinois v. Missouri
« on: April 12, 2008, 08:16:40 AM »
My goal is to obtain a market paying firm job in St. Louis.  8 of the 9 NALP firms in St. Louis interview on campus at Illinois, all interview at Missouri.  It seems that to have a shot at my goal, I need to make top 15% at Missouri.  At Illinois I am not sure what class rank I would need to maintain, but one can graduate with honors with a 3.25 GPA, which appears to be around 40% of the class.  I currently live in Missouri and my parents live in St. Louis, so I will be in the St. Louis at various times throughout the year.

I assume cost of living will be very close in Urbana-Champaign and Columbia.  Missouri tuition will be approximately $16,000 for three years, Illinois tuition will be approximately $60,000 for three years.  I am still waiting on WUSTL, which would make this discussion moot, but these are my two options right now.

Any thoughts?
