Law School Admissions / Columbia Online Application
« on: October 26, 2004, 01:57:38 PM »
A quick question.  Does "Certifiy Application" mean that you certify that it's done and you want them to take a look, or will it activate some sort of application checker which will certify that the application isn't missing anything?

I've gotten my PS to the point where I'm relatively satisfied with it, but I'd love it if someone (or better, many someones) would give it a look and make any commentary they think is useful or appropriate.

You can find the PS here:

Please break out your harshest constructive criticism.

Personal Statements, Resumes, and Letters of Recommendation / Faxing LORs
« on: October 03, 2004, 04:49:23 AM »
I seem to recall some people mentioning faxing their LORs to LSDAS to speed up processing.  Can this be done?  Can someone give me the fax number or point out where I could get it?

Choosing the Right Law School / Predicting your admits/waitlists
« on: October 01, 2004, 07:11:10 AM »
Ok, who wants to predict where the will/won't get in before hearing back?

Here are my guesses for myself:

Harvard      (reject)
Columbia     (waitlist)
Penn         (waitlist)
UCLA         (waitlist)
Chicago      (admit/waitlist) (please, please, please admit)
NYU          (admit)
Michigan     (admit)
Northwestern (admit)
Getorgetown  (admit)
Colorado     (admit)

Who else wants to jinx themselves/divine their future?

My boss just showed me the recommendation letter he's sending for me and it rocks!  Sweetness.

Law School Admissions / How to add additional transcripts
« on: August 12, 2004, 01:37:05 AM »
Ok, so six months ago when I first registered for the LSDAS, I put down my degree granting institution as the only place from where I would be submiting a trascript.

However, as a senior in HS, I took a couple courses at the local college for dual credit, and they appear as transfer credit on my degree granting college's transcript.

I know that I need to get a transcript from this place, but I can't figure out how to add an additional transcript in my LSAC profile.  Does anyone have a clue?

I wonder if all the teachers of the LSAT prep courses can consistantly score 175+.  If they can, why don't they go to law school themselves?

Law School Admissions / Who favors a high LSAT over high GPA
« on: July 27, 2004, 06:23:32 AM »
I know that Boalt gives quite a bit more weight to UGPA than to LSAT.

For which schools is the reverse true?  I rocked the LSAT, but my UGPA isn't anything to brag about, and I was wondering which of the Top 14 are "LSAT whores" who'll be excited about someone like me.

I've been out of undergraduate school for about 5 years, and I haven't done much to keep in touch with my professors.

My work experience has been good, and I will be able to get at least 2 very good letters from a boss and a collegue.

Is it important that I get an academic letter of recommendation, even if it isn't likely to have much personal information?
