I am curious when most SA Offices in big cities make their hiring decisions.

O.k. I am a little confused. I go to school in Illinois and have received an offer of an interview at the Miami SAO. I would really like to get this job, however, since I have a family and these things bills my travel fun is a little depleted. Anyway, I knew they wouldn't reimburse for travel.
I was talking to a friend at school and she mentioned something about NALP reimbursing for travel if you interview with one of the employers listed on their site. Does anyone know if this is true? I looked at the website and, although I was tired, from what I could tell it was for private firms and it was for the firms to reimburse and not NALP.
Anyone have information?
Hello all, I haven't written on here in a loooooooooooooooong time but I am in need of some help. I have an interview monday and was just informed that I have to bring a writing sample with me. They just decided it was a good idea. I have absolutely NO idea of how to format a cover letter for a writing sample. My career services office did not help at all.
Can someone give me a rough idea..
Hey everyone. Just wanted to gather some advice. I am dying to get out of Southern Illinois. I have wrote about this before as some might remember. Couple of things:.
1) since I go to a school that is not a Top tier school is it possible to get a judicial clerkship? I have yet to hear of anyone getting one.
2) I would LOVE to clerk at either the USVI, Northern Mariana, Palau(I know they require 1 year post JD at Palau), or somewhere like these areas.
3) i want to be a prosecutor when I get out so I am not worried if the right judical clerkship position would lead to a biglaw gig. Not interested.
4) I clerked for judges for about 6 months, I am doing an externship this summer with the SAO, I will also be working with a professor at my school who is working on a textbook doing research and writing for the textbook. Will this help me.
5) My ranking in my class is top 1/3 so I am not to high up there. I was 13th in my class but had to miss an entire month of school to be with my wife while she was in ICU. I still passed all my class above the median, but I still took a hit. Not trying to sounce egotistical, just want to tell what happened and see if anyone thinks that judges will look at this as a positive in a negative situation.
Anyway, I know I have alot of things going against me, but I will take any and all advice.
Unless I am mistaken the only place in FL that appears to be hiring is Dade County. However they only make about 40k a year. Which I assume if you have a family of 3 wouldn't last too long.. Is it possible to live in Miami-Dade on 40K a year.
O.k. I want to be a Prosecutor or Public Defender. I originally wanted to go back in the military however I suffer from Acid Reflux and that is a permanent disqualifier for military service.
Anyway, because I want to be a Prosecutor or PD and do not, I repeat, I DO NOT want to live in the Southern Illinois Area, what is the easiest way to become a SA or PD in TX, FL, AZ, CA, or something like that. I want to live somewhere warm. My career services office is not too helpful when dealing with leaving the area..
How competitive is it to get a job that far away from Southern Illinois.
Hey everyone, I was hoping I could get some advice from everyone here. I have tried to talk to my family but they have ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA of what I am going through.. I thought maybe someone on here could offer advice and suggestions.
Here is my situation. I am a 29 year old married male and I have a son.. I spent 8 years in the Navy.. While in the Navy I received and Article 15, however I was discharged with an Re-R1 re-enlistment code.... I am currently in my second year of law school. I have a relatively good GPA and a good ranking in my class.. I am applying for the AF JAG Corps and will have my application in soon. I am applying for the One Year College Program... Here is where it gets tricky...
If I am not selected for JAG, I am considering still doing ROTC.. I don't mind staying longer at school in order to meet the time requirments... If I do ROTC and get back into the military, I can possibly retire in 12 years and then practice law. Maybe even practice law while in.. I could probably even still apply for the JAG Corps via the Direct Appointment Program while in ROTC and even in the Air Force.. I would have my J.D. and would likely have passed the bar somewhere. Also, my state has a program that pays for school so I could possibly have my last year of law school paid for and receive a stipend. Since I have a family I could use the benefits that the Military offers. I also miss military life...
If I do this, there is a chance I might not be able to practice law for the 12 years I am in.. Therefore, when I get out of the military it might be hard to find a job as a lawyer...
What would you do in this situation..
I took the AFOQT December the 14th. I have yet to get my score. The ROTC Detachment is out till the 2nd. They gave me a website to check my score but all it does is keep popping up that there are no scores. They said the scores would take a week... I am wondering if anyone here knows how to check them. Has anyone here been in the Air Force ROTC, taken the AFOQT, or know anything. I want to apply for the AF JAG but need to wait till I get my score...
