Law School Admissions / Why X v. Other Optional Essays
« on: October 12, 2008, 06:11:34 PM »
Michigan offers two "optional" essays and one of mine will be an addendum. For the other optional essay I have a choice b/w:

1) A good diversity statement
2) A not-so-good why Michigan statement

Which should I include?  I hear that you should always write the Why X essay if you have the chance, but what if my other essay is better?

Law School Admissions / Diversity Statement
« on: October 04, 2008, 11:19:53 PM »
Anyone want to read a diversity statement that I converted from a personal statement?  I might not use it, but since it was written up why not?

I'm hoping that this will be close to final draft of my essay, but I need some critics for the last round of tweaks.

If you need someone to read your PS I'd also be happy to help.

Law School Admissions / No Permanent Address
« on: September 28, 2008, 10:07:50 PM »
I am living in Berkeley, CA and will be here until May 2009.  After that I do not know where I will live.  My parents live in Korea and my brother lives in San Diego, but he could be moving as well.  Should I just list my brother as my permanent address or my parents?

Will they send materials to the permanent address?

So I have a very rough draft just completed.  I wrote it in around 1-2 days so it's fairly rough.  I'm afraid it's not addressing some of the right points and it seems cliche too so I need some honest criticism.

So anyone want to read?

3.75 gpa
170 lsat

GPA: 3.74
LSAT: 170

Weak soft-factors:
3 years of undergraduate research.
Only did clubs for a semester or two so I won't be mentioning them.
Some part-time data entry to make money during winter/summers.

What schools should I take out?  What should I add?  Do I need 'safer' schools?  Any comments/suggestions on my list are welcome.

Law School Admissions / Undergrad Research
« on: July 02, 2008, 03:35:01 AM »
I was planning on getting a PhD and so I did 3 years of research under 2 different professors.  I also did an independent research project my final semester b/c it was something I've always wanted to do.

I wouldn't call it 'employment' and since I received 1-2 units each semester (nothing compared to the time I put in) it was part of my course load and I think technically not 'extracurricular.'  So where should I put it in my app?  Should I just include it in extracurricular?

Studying for the LSAT / Harder LSAT Scoring for post June 05 tests?
« on: June 04, 2008, 10:31:42 PM »
I read somewhere that after the June 05 test the LG section has gotten easier and the scoring conversions tougher.  I took the Sept 07 LSAT and got a 162 and took most of the more recent preptests during my first round of studying.  I changed the way I studied and I felt like I was doing better, but reading that the test changed after 05 has me a little worried.

I've averaged around a 169 on my last 5 practice tests (June 01 - Dec 02) and was wondering if I can expect a significant decrease in my scores for the recent tests?

More stats on my last 5 tests:
-5 LR
-4 RC
-3 LG
89 raw score
169 converted score

Studying for the LSAT / score delays?
« on: October 22, 2007, 01:32:04 AM »
I took the Sept. 29th test at UC Hastings (San Francisco, CA) and was stuck with a completely incompetent proctor.  Many things happened that day, but the worst was when he told us to take out our IDs in the MIDDLE of the second section.  It was my logic games and so it completely threw me off.

Anyway, I wrote a complaint and so my score is on hold.  I have tried emailing and calling LSAC, but no one can give me any information at all.  Has anyone written a complaint and if so how long are scores usually on hold?
