Where should I go next fall? / 153/3.65

Hello all. Sorry to further saturate this board with another 'where should I go?' thread, but, alas, I need some advice. I recently decided to go ahead and pursue law school. My GPA from the University of Texas was a 3.65 (finalized LSDAS GPA), I scored a 153 on the LSAT, and I'm not a URM. I understand that this basically sucks but I don't really want to go BigLaw - ideally, I want to join the JAG program after law school and then transition into government work after that. I've also considered going T3 or T4, working my ass off during 1L and transferring to a school that's ranked higher. This is obviously easier said than done but it's still an objective.

I'm planning on app'ing South Texas, Texas Wesleyan, Loyola New Orleans, perhaps OU, Texas Tech, etc. However, all of this is still relatively new to me, so I was wondering if there was anyone who could give me further guidance with regards to where I should apply. Would it behoove me to try and stay local? I'm from Houston, but I'd love to go out of state. Like I said, I'm really new so any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

H’okay, so… Sorry about how long-winded this may end up being, but I had a few questions and time is of the essence. I also apologize if this turns out to be a really stupid question – I only decided on pursuing law school at the end of this summer, so I’m still kind of green when it comes to knowledge regarding all the ins and outs of the application and acceptance process.

Well, long story short, I had one of those awful LSAT horror stories. My experience was the stuff of nightmares. I took a prep class, was hitting solid 160+s on my practice test, then went into take the actual LSAT this past Saturday and just freaked out. I don’t know if I was super nervous or if I was still experiencing the effects of the sleeping pill I took at 8 the night before (I’ve taken them before and I figured I’d be so nervous that I wouldn’t able to fall asleep, thus the pill-poppage) but I simply couldn’t focus on the first section of the test – which, for me, was reading comprehension, usually one of my stronger points. Alas, I reached the five minute mark and still had a whole passage to read. The shock and awe at my horrible performance carried over into the following section and, although I mostly recovered for the third section it wasn’t until I had my 15 minute break that I really got myself back under control. I came back, rocked the last logical reasoning section and did the best I’ve ever done on logic games – the area I was worried about the most. Go figure.

Now, my question is this. I’m expecting a score that is significantly lower than what I’m used to. I’m pretty much positive of this. My LSAT prep teacher said that most schools just take the highest of the two scores but should I cancel this test I just took? What if he’s wrong and what if I did especially atrocious? The only reason I don’t want to cancel is to see how well I did on the last two sections but if having one LSAT score that’s significantly worse than (hopefully) the one I take in December is going to affect my chances at admission in schools I don’t want to take that chance. What do y’all think? What would y’all do in my situation? I have six days to cancel and it’s been two so I need to make a decision quickly.

Also – I know that ideally one should apply right after the September LSAT but, unfortunately, I no longer have that luxury. How shafted am I when it comes to applications and admissions? Is it bad enough that I should wait until the next cycle a year from now? I've been getting conflicting opinions on this, both from friends and from posts on this board. Let me know what you guys think…

LSAC and LSDAS / General GPA/Dual Credit Question

First, let me preface this with an apology... This is probably a really stupid question but I've just recently decided to seriously consider the prospect of law school and I had a few questions, mainly regarding GPA and transfer credits.

I went to high school in Texas and while I was there, we had a program called "dual credit", which allowed the student to take a college course and get both college and high school credit - I don't know if any of y'all are familiar with this. I took four of these dual credit courses and got A's in all of them. Additionally, over the summer this past year, I took another course at community college so I could get ahead hours-wise in college and got another A there. Now my question is this: I know that when applying to law school, they want transcripts from EVERY school you've ever attended; I know I'll have to get transcripts for my dual credit classes AND for the summer class I took. But will these classes factor in as A's in my GPA? If so, that would be a VERY good thing!
