Distance Education Law Schools / Have DL schools brought Antitrust / Sherman Act claims ?

I'm just wondering if opportunist entrepreneurs seeking to profit off of distance education "law schools" would bring antitrust claims alleging that the ABA denies "graduates" of online schools the opportunity to practice law.

It seems like if you follow the broad language of §1 of the Sherman Act you could argue that the ABA engages in a conspiracy in restraint of trade.

General Board / Do you or anybody you know live like a king during law school?

I was just thinking about this the other day.  Couldn't someone who has never had a good income just go to law school and borrow (via federal loans and graduate plus)- a ton of money and live fat?  Get a new car, get a luxury apartment, eat steak and shrimp every day, etc.   You  could especially do this if you are at a cheap school (under 20k a year) or have a large scholarship.  The terms of repayment are such that a reasonable person could comfortably live well arising out of money obtained from borrowing.

This past year I borrowed less than my cost of attendance and am wondering if I was stupid to do so.

I don't really know the difference, but I just got an email about an Intellectual Property externship for the fall semester. Its unpaid, but you get credit. Its a really well known manufacturer who claim to introduce you to in house/out house counsel differences and many other things.

How difficult is it to get these positions and is it wise to do so?

General Board / How bad of trouble am I in?

If a student gets a bench warrant for contempt of court- can he get kicked out of school? This was over a real estate deal that I had failed to show up to a Subpoena back in november.  I recently got jailed for 2 days and had to get bonded out. I am planning on filing for bankrupcy within the next week or 2.

How serious is this and should I disclose this?

Just wondering what kind of questions I should ask the school (detroit mercy) about the grading system used and on what basis a student can get dismissed. Do they give you a second chance typically?

Is there forced attrition? I've seen various numbers on there 1L attrition from 13% to 21%. Where are the true numbers at?

Why do all the 'bad' schools have double digit attrition rates if the degree is less prestigious than the Tier 1 schools. You'd think if the Tier 1 standards were that much better they would kick out much more students than a bad school. Or is a more prestigious school 'prestigious' because of the entrance requirements, but the degree is not more difficult to obtain than a lower ranked school?

Financial Aid / FAFSA scam :(

Damn I was in a rush to do my fafsa online and accidently went to www.fafsa.com  instead of the official goverment website. Well, long story short. I paid them 80 bucks for them to do the application over the phone.

Is this a reputable company? I have no plans on ever using them again, but will they do a good job? Will they hit me up with recurring charges?

Should I cancel them or demand my cash back? Damn i went to a law school admissions office and I found out i was scammed because Fafsa should cost nothing!
