Transferring / Help me make final transfer decision!
« on: June 18, 2009, 02:58:00 PM »
I know I have posted this a couple times, but the decision needs to be made tonight.
Note: This current decision does not account for the T6, which will be a later decision, but for now, I HAVE to make this choice.
T50 Dc region school
Law Rev
highest grade 2 classes
Pros: get to keep grades, Law Rev
Cons: no prestige in long term.  Fall OCI list (30 large firms?)

Pros: More prestige
Cons: lost previous school's grades(Does this mean GULC will be more pressure and work???), Law Rev, LOTTERY SYSTEM (instead of basically everyone who comes to AU interviewing me, I only get around 10-15.

Transferring / Fall OCI Lottery system v. pre screening
« on: June 09, 2009, 02:31:09 PM »
A lot of people base the decision on whether or not to transfer on their opportunities at Fall OCI.  The consensus seems to be transfer from the t50.  My decision invovles a t50 to gulc.  GULC does a lottery and you end up with about 8-10 interviews from the lottery.  At my t50, the firms prescreen.  But since most big firms in the area (schools are in the same area) go to the t50, wouldn't they always pick the student in the top of the class and on law review?  If that is true, why is it better to go to a school with a lottery system when you will only get 10 interviews, while you can get 50 at the t50?  Thanks for any advice.

Transferring / At what point is it not smart to transfer
« on: April 24, 2009, 08:28:37 PM »
Hi everyone,

I just got into GULC and I attend a top 50 school.  I am top of my class right now but who knows what will happen this semester.  I do not really want to apply to other schools so my question is this:
I am top of my class at the top 50 AND on Law Review.  In terms of Fall OCI and getting a solid SA position, what looks better?  The top 50 school on law review OR my grades with the top 50 school and law review ON MY RESUME and attending GULC.  Any advice would be appreciated.  I want to work in DC.

Transferring / Why is it worth it to transfer if..

Hi all,

Is it worth it to transfer when you are close to the top of your class at a t1 or t2?

Job Search / Good grades/what to do
« on: February 12, 2009, 04:29:23 PM »
Am I a fool if I take a non-paying job this summer or should I be using decent grades to my advantage, work my connections and try to get biglaw or at least a small to mid SA gig.  Or is it too hard with the economy now.  Thanks for the advice!

Incoming 1Ls / LEEWS, Getting to Maybe or Delaney's
« on: June 18, 2008, 03:24:42 PM »
Hi Guys,
I am very overwhelmed by the debate of whether or not to prep.  But I have definitely decided to read an exam prep book just for an idea of what is expected.  Obviously PLS says to do LEEWS and read Delaney's exam book.  But of these two and getting to maybe, is there just ONE that would be sufficient to read for a 0L?  If so, which one?  and if I should read more than 1, which 2?  thanks for the advice!!

Choosing the Right Law School / Part-time programs
« on: January 06, 2008, 02:11:59 PM »
Im sure this is a common question but I have yet to find a clear answer.....Is going part time for a year going to hurt chances when applying to summer associate positions or writing on law review.  I know the class ranking system is different so how do employers look at that, even if it is just for a year.....Thanks for the advice..
