So, say you work your 2L Summer at a firm and get an offer. Is it common for that offer to stand if you decide to take a clerkship for a year after law school? If so, is this something that you would need to tell the firm that you were interested in during your 2L interview, during your time as an SA, or later?
I'm not sure this is something I'd want to do, but just wondering how firms dealt with this.
Any insight is much appreciated.

OK, so I'm read Posner's newest book and its making me think that maybe something is missing in my understanding of pragmatism. I was only a philosophy minor, and never did any real study of this system, but my understanding of the basic idea is that pragmatism refers to a concern for the actual outcomes of actions as opposed to concern with the inherent value of those actions. Correct? If so, are there some other important details that I should know about?

I think they're awesome, and should be made officially legal. I like gettin' ems almost as much as I like making 'ems.
This because I had a lady actually call the cops on me. And it wasn't even a mean call.
ETA: I can't believe no one else appreciates the fine art! In protest, I have removed my fine prank call setups. Its like showing the mona lisa to a blind guy.

Alright, I get the the general concept, I'm not a frickin idiot over here, but what exactly do you think of when you use the word gunner? What specific actions would cause you to brand someone as a gunner?
And, as a side note, what do you think of someone who is a gunner but is also a lot smarter than you? Do you dislike them or respect them?

"Why go to Duke when you could go to Carolina for so much cheaper?"
Sound like the question of an uninformed Mom? Wrong! This sentiment was actually expressed by the in house counsel at my Dad's company, who, btw, was formerly a partner at a major Charlotte firm. He went, btw, to Ohio State for law school. Is this just the skewed perspective of someone who ended up having a great career despite going to a lower ranked school or is this for real? Input from people who actually know more than average starting salaries would be appreciated.

Has anyone accepted on PT at Duke been waiting over a week for acceptance package? If not, how long did you wait.
Also, what's in it? Forms to fill out (scholarship, Financial Aid, etc.) or just a glorified view book?
