General Board / National Law School Consortium
« on: April 16, 2009, 04:21:42 PM »
Is anyone familiar with the National Law School Consortium? Or career fairs in general? I looked at the NALP form and there are several decent firms who attend the NLSC but do they actually hire much through it? It seems that those firms are more likely to pull SAs from the schools which they actually attend OCI.

So are career fairs a good way to get a SA position? Also, is a career fair a good way to gain employment in a city outside of a school's regional pull?  ??? ???

I am wondering if sending in a seat deposit would have any affect on receiving need based aid?

What is the salary range for medium and small firms? Also what ranking do you need to land at a mid size firm from a T1 school.

Where should I go next fall? / Hold out for waitlist
« on: April 07, 2008, 09:34:14 AM »
So I have been waitlisted at William and Mary, and Boston College. I still have not heard form UNC. I have been accepted at Univ. of Florida. I had been planing a LSAT retake but with being married and my wife being a teacher it is simply not possible to wait until july and decide to go to law school this year. I do not have big dreams of joining a large firm. I just want to get a decent job($55-65K+) that will allow me to pay off whatever debt I incur while in law school. I would also like to live(after law school) in the south preferably near the ocean. Currently Florida has not offered me any money but I just recently sent in the paperwork. Large cities are not my thing but I guess I could handle it if it were necessary.

My question is, Should I go ahead and accept at florida and prepare for the move or should I hold out for one of my waitlists for a few months? I will not make a decision before I hear from UNC b/c I have not decided between them and florida yet.

The amount of debt I rack up is important to me but only in relation to my ability to pay it off comfortably after law school. If you know about the respective likelhood I will receive instate tutition after one year please comment. I have assumed that I will receive instate after a year with each school when calculating debt and I think that my wife will be employed full time will help that. But here are my aprox. 3 year tutition costs at each school.

Florida-$52K
W&M-$62K
UNC-$51K
BC- $100K+

Any advice will help. Thank You. ;D

Studying for the LSAT / Frustrated
« on: March 08, 2008, 05:41:05 PM »
I took a practice test today after not even looking at a study book since I took the test in December. I scored a 170, what I was averaging before I took the December LSAT. ARG!!! I take this as strong evidence that this is the range I should have scored at in December. Instead I became very anxious and ended up with a 160. And yes I have always used realistic timed conditions.

So I don't think I can be happy without giving it another whirl in June. If I bomb again I can go to Iowa this fall anyway.

What do I need to do to avoid another melt down come June? Should I not study so hard this time? I know it is realistic to expect a small drop on test day, but if I could even pull a 165-7 I would completely change my prospects.

I applied mid-January with a 4.0 and 160

Thanks.
