Law School Applications / Calling Dilemma
« on: March 26, 2008, 01:25:02 PM »
Dear Forum Folks,

I was deferred from early decision at Hastings back in December, and was thus added to the regular applicants pile.  In their deferral e-mail, they said they anticipated that they would have a decision for me by March 15.  It is now the 27th and I still haven't heard from them.  My deposit at another place that has accepted me is due soon, and I'd really like to get a decision from Hastings (Hastings is indeed my first choice, hence the early decision app).  However, in the same deferral e-mail they said: "we will kindly appreciate your not contacting us to check on the status of your application, so that we can focus all our staff efforts on getting decisions made as quickly as possible."

What do I do!?

Thank you for your advice!

Acceptances / First Decision for 07-08 Cycle Received
« on: November 28, 2007, 06:48:39 AM »
And it was good news from American University.  Notified by snail mail on Monday (Nov. 26th) to permanent address.  Regular application sent Oct. 25th, complete Nov. 19th.  It was a target school for me, so I hope this is a sign of good things to come, while I wait for the 13 other schools to get in touch with me.  The schools I applied ED and EA to haven't even given me a decision yet.  But it's a good feeling, indeed.

Law School Applications / UC Hastings Online Status Checker?
« on: November 21, 2007, 08:22:33 AM »
Hi folks.  Is the online status checker for UC Hastings accessible for anyone?  I know they have the WebAdvisor thing online, but I never received a username or password for it, despite having gone complete 2 weeks ago.  Anyone already got their username/password?  Anyone in the same situation?  Anyone gone through this with Hastings who might know?  Thank you very much!

Law School Applications / Rounding
« on: October 30, 2007, 04:30:13 AM »
Dear Forum Folks,

Let's say if my GPA was 3.565, can I legitimately round it up to 3.57 for law school apps?  I won't say 3.570 of course, because that would be lying.  Some schools only have room for 2 decimal points anyway so I'll definitely be forced to round for those.  But for others, comments?

Thanks!

Law School Applications / To Mail or Not to Mail?
« on: October 26, 2007, 09:16:21 PM »
Dear Forum Folks,

I am at yet another bump on the road.  This time, it is LSAC and rec. letters related.  Here's the deal:

I applied to UC Davis (where I would kill to go and I feel competitive), they requested my LSDAS report, and 2/3 of my letters went with it (because the other one was processed right after the report went out).  However, Davis requires 2 letters, and allows up to three, and my file went complete with only two of my letters.  The problem is that the letter that didn't get included in the 'complete' file is my main letter.  Davis won't receive this letter until Nov. 1st because that is their setting for receiving letters.  To prevent my file getting reviewed without the main letter, should I send a letter or e-mail to (or even call if that's more appropriate) UC Davis?

Thank you for your input!

Law School Applications / How Do Law Schools Conspire?
« on: October 25, 2007, 03:20:31 AM »
So I called an admissions office earlier today about applying to multiple early decisions, and I was told that it was a bad idea because law schools could find out you've made several binding commitments because law schools talk to each other.

How, exactly?  Do law schools have liasons that share information or something like that?  Do they make bargains like "You can have candidate A with the 4.0 and 180 and our school will take candidates B and C with the Olympic medal and Purple Heart."  Do they just casually talk about us, like "Yeah, I saw his application too, man, did he try!"?

Law School Applications / Addendum Reader, Please?
« on: October 24, 2007, 06:33:02 AM »
Dear Forum Folks,

You have all been very kind to me.  I have yet another favor to ask.  A university explicitly asks for an addendum to explain large leaps in LSAT scores.  Mine is a leap of nine points, and I believe I better write one of these addendum thingies.  Well.  Now I have it, would someone please be kind enough to read it through for me?  I will PM it over, or e-mail it over if you furnish an e-mail address.

Thank you!

Dear Forum Folks,

I would like some advice on applying early decision.  While some schools, for example American University, clearly state that "You may not apply for another binding early decision program at another law school," other schools do not provide such information.  Instead, they all say "if I am admitted to ______ I agree to withdraw all pending applications and not initiate applications at other institutions."

Now - does this mean that I can apply to multiple early decision programs which are binding, as long as they do not expressedly prohibit applying at other early-binding schools, and make sure to withdraw all applications after I get my very first early binding offer?

Thank you!

LSAC and LSDAS / Law School Report Without Letters of Recommendation?
« on: October 23, 2007, 02:11:31 AM »
Dear Forum Folks,

I am so confused by the LSAC/LSDAS website.  Sometimes they group LoR's and law school reports together, and sometimes not, and I have no idea if transcripts are part of a law school report or not.  My problem is this:

Let's say that I were to send an early application to a school, and everything of mine is on file with LSDAS already except 2/3 of my recommendation letters.  Now, let's pretend the school requests my law school report right away, would LSDAS send the report despite the missing letters?  And would my letters that get processed later be sent to them later on?

Thank you very much for your help!

Law School Applications / Addendum: When Is It Appropriate?
« on: October 21, 2007, 09:34:55 AM »
Dear Forum Folks,

I have a question, it might be noobish, but please bear with me.  When is it appropriate to attach an addendum to explain LSAT discrepancies?  I took the LSAT twice, first time I scored a 150, second time a 160 - a vast improvement.  Not many applications have anything in their instructions regarding addendums.  Should I assume that I can attach an addendum to every school I apply to?  Should I even try to explain the 10 point difference, or just not care?

Thank you!
