Where should I go next fall? / Oh God...SMU or Tulane?
« on: June 25, 2007, 03:43:02 PM »
So, I was all set on SMU... then, this morning, I got accepted off yet another waiting list -- this time at Tulane. So, I'm hoping you LSDers can provide me with some guidance in this difficult decision.
Tulane
Pros: I am deadset on going into environmental law, and Tulane's program is stellar.
Cons: I will be away from my girlfriend, who lives in Dallas. I have no desire to live in Louisiana after law school, though I've read that neither do most Tulane Law students.
SMU
Pros: I like Dallas. SMU is a beautiful campus, located in a very nice area. I certainly would not be obliged to living in Texas after I graduate. As well, I hear that Texas is a big hub for energy law, which I suppose is an offshoot of environmental law. Last but certainly not least, my girlfriend lives in Dallas.
Cons: SMU has no real environmental law program, though it does offer a fair number of e-law classes. As well, Dallas is more of a tax and tech-based economy than an energy hub. SMU is also more limiting in its placement. I've read that SMU grads are less dispersed nationally than Tulane grads.
