Looking for some info re plaintiffs side securities litigation - what the work is like, hours, current state of the practice, etc. In particular, I am looking for some information about medium size firms (60-100 attys) that specialize in representing institutional/municipal investors in class actions against corporations for securities fraud. Anyone have any info on the UBS Legal SA program? Job description says position likely turns into admission for their full-time grad training program after graduation...anyone have info re that? I thought Ibanks did not hire law school grads...

2L job search / Summer Grade Boost to GPA« on: August 15, 2008, 04:54:07 PM »
I am a rising 2L, took a class this summer, did well, and as a result my GPA changed from around a 3.55 to a 3.6. After spring semester I was just outside top 15%...my school doesn't recalculate ranks after summer session. While the change in GPA is not enormous, as a Tier 2 student a jump from just outside top 15% to, perhaps, top 10% would be huge in the job search. My problem is that I asked my school to give me a top 10% GPA cutoff so I can put it on may resume and they are not getting back to me. I would like to send out resumes to a handful of firms that did not attend OCI this week. Any suggestions? Leave the spring rank off and just go with the GPA? Explain in cover letter? I know OCS should be able to answer but they have been giving me the run around telling me to contact registrar for cutoffs and registrar has been non-responsive.

2L job search / Ranks on OCI Resume« on: July 11, 2008, 03:02:54 PM »
Are class ranks expected to be on a resume submitted for OCI? I know OCS says it is our decision, but I just wasn't sure if it is normal to keep it an unremarkable rank on there. I am barely outside the top 15% at a T2, and I think just listing my GPA would look better than the GPA followed by a rank which it outide the top 15%...any thoughts?

1L job search / State Supreme Court Judicial Internship vs Small-Mid Law SA« on: February 21, 2008, 09:11:53 PM »
Here is my dilema...I sent out a large number of cover letter/resumes to mid/small size firms last week (after getting about 30 or so big law rejections) and have yet to hear back from anyone. After sending those out I sent out a handful of letters/resumes to state supreme court justices and district ct judges. Today I received an interview offer from a state supreme court justice. I would prefer a paying job this summer, but I know state supreme court internships are limited. So, I am not sure what to do, should I try to delay the interview in the hopes that I get an interview for a SA? I am not going to go to an interview with a judge unless I am plan on accepting the job if she offers it to me during the interview. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Also, what is considered better on a resume a small/mid SA or a judicial internship at the state supreme court? FYI - I plan on going the corporate law route after graduation. My fall grades put me in top 5% at a T2.

I know Biglaw firms have very few summer associate positions for 1Ls, but do any of you know if large financial institutions (I-banks, Insurance Companies, Hedge Funds) offer summer jobs to 1Ls? I am interested in Corporate Law and I think working in that field would be of more use than interning for a judge who doesn't se emuch corporate litigation. Let me know your thoughts.

Financial Aid / Grad Plus vs NJCLASS« on: June 20, 2007, 12:43:08 PM »
Anyone attending school in NJ and have info on the NJCLASS loan issued by the NJ Higher Education Assistance Authority? It is a fixed loan at 6.8% for defferred payments and 6.0% for non deffered auto-payments. It sounds pretty good to me, but I must admit I haven't done extensive research on loan options. Does this sound like a good deal to you? After reading the terms of most grad plus loans the NJCLASS loan seems like a better option..am I missing something?
