Is it wise, as an SA, to ask a named partner to be a reference for future employers? He has the best knowledge of my work. I believe the firm would like to keep me next summer, so it's a seemingly delicate subject.

I've been all set to go to Illinois, but I just got off the WUSTL waitlist with an unexpected money offer. The school's tuition will still cost significantly more (~$10k/year) and I imagine the cost of St. Louis is considerably higher. That being said, I have a feeling WUSTL will keep climbing the rankings as it has these past few years, never leaving the top 20. Is it worth uprooting my apartment plans and paying more money to go to WUSTL? I have considered them peer schools.
A note about me: I'm an EE patent agent going into patent law, so difficulty in finding a good-paying job isn't a huge concern. However, I've heard WUSTL's IP program is superior to UIUC's. Vote please! 7

Has anyone else rejected by Emory received the following email? It was sent through lsac.org so I'm guessing it was just an error on their part:
"Greetings Class of 2010! I hope that your summer is off to a wonderful start. To better prepare for your arrival at Emory Law, the Office of Alumni Relations would like to remind you to notify us of whether or not you have family members that have attended Emory Law. This information should have been on your Second Deposit Tuition form; however, some of you were sent an earlier version of the form that did not include alumni designations. If you have not informed us of whether you have family members who attended Emory Law, please fill out the attached form and return it to aboyles@emory.edu. Thank you! Best, Khary" 8

I know I'm not the only one quitting work early, and I'm not going to be covered by any parent's insurance. What's everyone doing for summer health insurance coverage? I'm planning on getting catastrophic only, but I don't know what the best provider is and how quickly I can be covered (quitting work on June 15).

Where should I go next fall? / UMN vs UIUC ($)« on: April 11, 2007, 12:28:23 AM »
Fielding this on LSD as well as TLS...
I'm an EE w/ patent registration looking for a portable JD degree. I've been accepted to UIUC and UMN, UIUC with a $$ scholarship. UIUC has huge respect in the engineering community; does this rub off on the recognition IP firms (and clients) give to it? Both of these are typically strong regional schools, though I expect my background will carry me further. Is it worth paying full price to go to UMN over $$ off UIUC, given that parks and outdoor activities are important to me? Will UMN afford me any additional employment opportunities, or is a nicer setting the only perk? I don't have a particular preference towards location after school, though family is in southeast. It might be nice to make it back. I guess I could try to see if UMN will give me any money, but given my low GPA that's almost laughable.
