Choosing the Right Law School / i'm a desperate woman.
« on: April 14, 2007, 06:28:02 PM »
ok, so for the past month i've been going in circles: fordham, hastings, fordham, hastings, fordham, hastings... and finally made my decision to send in my deposit to uchastings.

i thought i was on the route of wanting to go to a city and work in a city when i was done. even though i still want the metropolitan lifestyle, i started to take my priority WL at UVA in consideration which i had (stupidly) brushed aside.

after much reading about UVA, their professors, curriculum, environment and hanging out on their website for over 8 hours yesterday (amazing and simple layout by the way)... i think i'm IN LOVE. i can see myself living and LOVING c-ville. my heart is beating like 1000 times per second b/c i'm scared i won't be considered for admission. i know for a fact that if their 434 number showed up on my call ID and they told me "you're in", i'd submit my deposit in a heartbeat.

that said, how do i let them know? i have a version of a LOCI, but it's more about why i'd be a great fit for their campus because of my strengths & interests. i stressed again that i'm a minority (well i don't know if i am... i'm egyptian), female electrical engineer. i'm thinking i should mention my favorite things about their school. does anyone have any advice? i really want to be a cavalier and i want to tell them in the most sincere, appropriate way.

Choosing the Right Law School / Bay Area / IP Law
« on: April 10, 2007, 11:59:47 AM »
I posted about a week ago (or more maybe) about my dilemma regarding choosing between UCHastings and Fordham... after much discussion with many current law students, friends, and family, it became clear to me that if I want to work in IP law and live in the Bay Area... I should probably stay in CA and go to school, shockingly (ha), in the Bay Area.

So then a new issue arises. And i'm sure many people on the boards have had this debate...

Do I go to SCU or UCHastings?

I have an Electrical Engineering background and I'm almost pretty sure I'm going into an IP law program. Santa Clara ranks remarkably as #4 (obviously b/c of its location and its alumni network) for IP, but Hastings is better overall and is more well-known. I haven't heard MUCH about their IP law program- and I'm very curious about any information that people may have. IF I hadn't been offered 20k from Santa Clara, this wouldn't be a problem, but w/ the prospect of going to law school my 1ST year and owing no money (my parents would pay the difference between the total tuition and the 20k scholarship) to a school that has reputable standings in IP... should I consider it?
