Law School Admissions / Chances at Wake?
« on: April 17, 2007, 06:23:30 PM »
I visited Mason this weekend and wasn't really impressed but put in a deposit anyway. So basically I'm hoping to get an acceptance from Wake so that I can withdraw from Mason, Miami, and WM and wait out the GW waitlist knowing that if it doesn't work out I will happily attend Wake. My index on LSN (83.2) indicates that I'm in good position for an acceptance but I didn't go complete until 3/1. I sent an LOCI this weekend via email and confirmed that it was added to my file today. I guess I'm just wondering what people think my chances are with a decision likely to be made in the next two weeks.

Law School Admissions / GW PT vs. Mason 1L transfer
« on: April 13, 2007, 08:35:13 AM »
I'm putting in my deposit at GMU this weekend and I just received a waitlist from GW, my undisputed 1st choice. The waitlist card asks if I want to be considered for FT, PT or both and I feel like I could probably get in PT whereas FT would be more of a gamble (My father got his MD there, my sister got her MBA there, I have a letter of rec. from an affluent alumnus that's on it's way so I feel like I may be able to overcome my low GPA). My question is this: If I want D.C. biglaw and debt is an issue would it be smarter to check FT only on the waitlist card and gamble with the idea in mind of transferring from Mason after 1L if I get rejected OR should I ckeck both on the waitlist card and take a likely PT admission with the idea of transferring to FT (which I've heard is not as easy as it sounds) after the first semester?

Law School Admissions / LOCI if waiting on a decision?
« on: April 11, 2007, 10:40:14 PM »
I'm waiting on decisions from GW and Wake, they have both told me over the phone that I should hear from them shortly after the April 15th deposit deadlines. I had a family friend and GWLS alumnus send in a follow up recommendation letter this week. My questions are: 1. should you send LOCI's to schools that have not made a decision yet? and 2. If so, is an LOCI necessary for GW if that alum sent in that letter or is it overkill?

Law School Admissions / Alumni Phone Call: help or hurt my chances?
« on: March 25, 2007, 07:29:30 PM »
GW is my top choice, I'm very borderline for admission purposes and they told me that I wouldn't hear anything for 4-6 weeks. One of my father's friends is a very wealthy GW law alum. He donates regularly but I don't think in massive amounts and he's not on any boards or anything. He has offered to call or write the admissions committee on my behalf but I don't know if this will help or simply annoy them. Do you guys think this would be a hinderance or a help? If you think it would help, would it be more effective to write or call?

Law School Admissions / WTF?

I know I'm a classic splitter but how the f*** did I get into GMU out of state and straight up pwn3d by UF as a Florida resident? As a side note, what do you guys think my chances are for Wake and W&M (alma mater)? I'm still holding out hope but haven't heard anything yet (although I did apply in late feb.).
