So I've decided that I want to live out my childhood fantasy of being Indiana Jones for the summer.  I've done a little bit of homework and decided that, instead of taking a month-long road trip as I'd planned a few months ago, I'd rather do something that pushes me to my physical limits.  I've decided on this, which I read about in the NY Times a little while back, here.  Initially, my parents were in favor of my decision, though my mom seemed a little skeptical about me running around in the woods for a month.  Just today my mom called and asked me to reconsider, citing the recent death of a participant in this same course last year--the first in 40 years of operation.  I'm a little nervous but I feel like the risk is a major part of why I'm doing this in the first place.  Is this crazy to be considering??  My friends are split about 50-50.  I'll probably go for it in the end, but I'd like to see what people have to say.

All right, that's a bit of a hyperbole.  Anyway, I am getting impatient.  I didn't get the second email (waitlist/accept), should I bite the bullet and call on Monday?  Or just sit back and take my rejection like a man?

Edited: to clear up wording.

I'm kind of wondering about what I should do with the schools that I've withdrawn from.  For my withdrawals I sent in the cards I received, but for three of them I still continue to receive promotional material.  Should I follow up and call just to make sure they know I'm no longer interested?

I'm all about avoiding pain/discomfort for myself whenever possible, but I don't want to screw somebody else out of a spot they really want just because I'm too timid to follow up.  Any advice?  You think they'll get the message eventually?
