Law School Admissions / Lost decision letter
« on: May 22, 2007, 10:11:12 AM »
This is now the second letter sent to me that has been lost..

A school that will remain nameless sent out my decision letter a month ago... i've called three times in the last two weeks to find out what the deal is... finally they tell me they will send it out again this week... they refuse to tell me on the phone despite waiting a month for the decision...

one of three things is true:

a) this school is heartless for not just telling me I am rejected...
b) this school is so pretensious that they don't care whether i accept their offer or not...
c) this school is so stuck in the red-tape of protocol and policy that they can't do sh*t about sh*t

Law School Admissions / fordham - mail delivery error!
« on: March 17, 2007, 01:50:44 PM »
as many of you know.. my application to Fordham has been stuck on "2nd evaluation" since the middle of December... early in February I emailed to double check that everything was ok.. I received a very generic response indicating that basically a decision will be made at some point... well guess what I find in the mail today... a letter from Fordham dated Dec 11th (post marked Dec 14th) indicating that I need to send in a form indicating my "continued interest" ... the letter had been water damaged and ripped in multiple spots.. the water damage rendered my address "unreadable" by the USPS and it took them three months to figure out my address in what is not a large town..

clearly... my response is now three months late... i just sent an email to fordham explaining what happened...

i can't believe that this may negatively effect what my outcome might be.. it also makes me wonder how many people dont get waitlist/acceptance notifications that clearly need to be responded to...

well i just got the news.. and honestly im happy to be on the waitlist.. now the question is whats the odds of them using the waitlist this year?? the letter says they were over enrolled last year so they are underaccepting this year to be more careful.. so i assume theyll be using the waitlist some.. the question is how much? i am not really expecting answers since its an unknown, just wanted to vent and see who else is in the same boat

Law School Admissions / what constitutes a legacy?
« on: February 05, 2007, 12:12:13 PM »
random question... do most schools use a rather narrow definition of a legacy and only apply the term to a son/daughter of an alum. or do they apply a broader definition to a grandson/granddaughter or brother/sister?

Choosing the Right Law School / penn law school craziness
« on: February 01, 2007, 12:27:09 PM »
for those that are worried about safety in philly... maybe you should be concerned about your peers...

A second-year Penn Law student was arrested yesterday after he allegedly fired about 15 shots into the door of his downstairs neighbors' apartment at 4339 Pine St., Lt. John Walker of the Philadelphia Police said.

The Penn student - whose name will not be released until he is arraigned - is being charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, burglary and other related charges.

No one was injured in the incident.

At about 12:30 p.m. yesterday, the student attempted to enter the apartment of his neighbors, two male Drexel University students, Walker said.

After the Drexel students did not answer their door, the Penn student returned to his second-floor apartment, retrieved a Glock 9mm handgun and allegedly fired 13 to 15 shots into the locked door, Walker said.

When the Penn student entered the apartment, only one Drexel student was inside. The Drexel student remained hiding behind his bed for the entire time that the Penn student was in the apartment, Walker said.

The Penn student did not find the Drexel student, who escaped the incident unharmed, Walker said.

The Penn student then left the building. He was apprehended by the police when he returned to the building at about 12:45 p.m.

He attempted to assault the Drexel students because he believed that they were spying on him, Walker said.

This belief was spurred by a conversation that occurred yesterday morning in which the Penn student learned the two Drexel students were from India and studying biomedical engineering, Walker said.

The Penn student, who is Korean, became "irate" that the Drexel students were studying here after he learned they were from India, Walker said.

Walker added that the suspect had been living in the apartment for less than 30 days.

The Southwest Detective Division is handling the investigation because it is outside the Penn Police's patrol zone, which extends from 30th to 43rd streets and from Baltimore Avenue to Market Street.

Choosing the Right Law School / temple vs fordham
« on: January 16, 2007, 08:39:50 AM »
baring an acceptance at penn, its looking like my choice is going to come down to temple vs fordham...

on one hand we have a school known for producing great trial lawyers (temple) vs new york teir 1 school (fordham)... im from philly so i get instate tuition at temple and philly law firms love temple grads... i don't know too much about how fordham is regarded within top nyc firms, so ifanyone have any insight that might aid in my decision it would be greatly appreciated!
