George Washington U / Rank at GW
« on: January 24, 2009, 05:08:16 PM »
For anyone at GW who knows: what's been the GPA cutoff to be 5-10% in the past? What GPA is virtually guaranteed to be top 5%? (3.8? 4.0?) And is there any way to figure out your specific rank? (not just the rough top 15%-30% scholar designations).

I'm at a Top 25 school.

Although I haven't decided for sure whether I'm going to seek a clerkship, I want to leave the option open.  Is mere membership not enough?  Will an editorial position (Non-EIC) really make that much of a difference?

Informed opinions and bull speculation are both welcomed.

So, there's a couple of firms that I did OCI pre-screening interviews with (almost a month ago) that I haven't heard from.  One of the firms said I wouldn't hear back from them until "September or so."

I'm wondering whether it's ok to call the recruiting coordinators at these firms to find out what the hell is going on.  I've got an offer that's gonna expire in a couple of weeks and I'd like to know whether I have a shot at these firms.

Any thoughts?

I've got an offer from a firm that I would like to work at, but they're only giving me two weeks to decide and I've still got other interviews to do.

What should I do?  If I ask for an extension, will they view me as someone who's not really into the firm?  Would they lose enthusiasm about hiring me?

I'd appreciate any advice.

Job Search / What should I bring to callback interviews?

Should I bring resumes, transcripts, references, writing sample, etc?

Any insight is appreciated.

Current Law Students / OCI Reception Questions
« on: August 15, 2008, 05:14:04 PM »
So.. a couple of questions:

(1) How important are these things?  I realize it's more face time with potential employers, but the way I see it, that could be either good or bad.  Does anyone think they'll care/notice if I don't go?

(2) If I do go, would it be inappropriate to bring my wife along?  She's also a law student.

Any insight is appreciated.

So how did everyone do?  I fared pretty decently (I think) with 8 interviews.  Anyone else want to share?

Someone on transferapps who got deferred was able to access the admitted students site yesterday.... Has anyone else on here heard anything / have access to the site?

GW has a 500 word limit and I've got 519... anyone think this is a big deal?
