2L job search / Choosing between a few offers - any help appreciated« on: October 29, 2008, 11:18:05 AM »
I have a few offers in LA: Simpson Thacher (small office), Proskauer Rose (bigger office), and Mannatt Phelps (La-based firm). Any advice? I realize Simpson is high up in Vault, but is there any concern working for the smaller satellite office in LA?

I plan to live and work in LA. That is where I grew up, and where my family still lives.
Loyola's offered me a full ride, while USC and Texas essentially offered little to no money (USC would cost me 35K per year, while Texas would cost about 30K). I have a number of connections in law firms in LA, and I am confident I could do well at Loyola. Should I still take out the loans and go to USC or Texas? If so, why? Thanks. 3

Need to decide soon where I want to go next year. It's down to USC, Texas and Loyola LA (full scholarship). I plan to live in LA after law school.

I was recently accepted to Univ of Texas, and I'm really excited about it.
That being said, I plan to live and work in Los Angeles, and most of my friends live either in NYC or LA -- making Fordham and Loyola quite appealing. I realize Loyola is not ranked very high, but it, in many ways, is the Fordham of LA, I think. Anyway, I was wondering what you thought about Texas, in terms of working in LA, and how it compares to the other schools I listed. If I were to be admitted to USC, I imagine I'd have to choose that over Texas, merely for its LA connections. Thanks for reading. 5

I'm from LA, and would prefer to be in NY or LA. I've applied to USC, UCLA, Loyola, NYU, Columbia, Fordham, Georgetown, GW, Penn.
Is there anywhere else you think I should apply? Is it worth applying to Stanford/Harvard, or do I have no shot of getting in? Would rather save the $80 if there's no chance... Thanks for your help... 6

Are they worth writing -- i.e. why i want to go to ucla/northwestern -- if i truly have no idea why i want to go, except that they are good schools with good job placement??
Also, the NW optional interview -- how important is that? If I elect not to take it, will they judge me negatively? I'm actually a good interviewer, I think, but I don't want to spend 400$ flying to Chicago, when NW isn't a top choice of mine... Thanks. 7

I recently sent out my apps to several East coast (nyu, columbia, fordham, penn) and West coast (loyola (LA), ucla, usc, boalt) schools. I've been offered a full scholarship at Loyola already, and I plan to practice law in LA.
If I were admitted to USC/UCLA, do you think it's worth it to take out loans and forego the scholarship at Loyola? I'm confident that it's worth it to take out loans for NYU/Columbia/Penn/Boalt, I'm just not sure about SC and UCLA, in terms of getting jobs in LA. Truthfully, I don't have to decide until I hear back from all of these schools, but it's hard not to think about it ahead of time.
