Law School Discussion

Not sure if this should have been posted in another board, but here goes. I am a practicing attorney that recently graduated from a full-time program. Despite my pleas, one of my closest friends decided to attend law school at a part-time T4. I am absolutely horrified for her.

I have no experience with part-time programs. My question is: what -should- part-time 1Ls and 2Ls do over their summers? Are they supposed to take classes or intern etc like most full-timers? I asked my friend what her career office told her and I was confused by her response (which I'm not disclosing because I'm curious to hear from the board).

The only other person I know who attended a T4 was apparently told by her career office to take classes over her summers and not to worry about working or internships. I'm not sure if this advice is what she actually received, but I am pretty sure it was incorrect.

Any advice would be appreciated - I'm not trolling or whatever, just a former LSDer returning to the board for advice. I'm sure this might help other students as well. Thanks.

i had a facebook account in UG, but deleted it the day i found out an employer looked at my page. my page was relatively tame, so facebook may or may not have had anything to do with their decision. (i didn't get the job)

for those of you that have or used to have a facebook/myspace/whatever: yes or no for LS networking? i've noticed several 0Ls joining groups but am reluctant to plunge into online social networking world again.

Anyone have an idea of how much "free time" we'll have as an 1L, if at all? Many LS pamphlets I've seen say something about how awesome it is that you can "enrich your education by indulging in our course offerings at other departments," or something to that effect, and I'm wondering if this is actually possible. Not necessarily because I'd like to take another class, but I'm just wondering how much free time I'll have to do stuff.

I've read on this board that UW doesn't place too much emphasis on their rankings except for purposes of placing students in law review -- that there isn't such heavy competition for grades as there would be in other schools. For those of you that know what I'm talking about, wouldn't this make it harder for UW students to find jobs elsewhere? I'm worried that employers outside of Washington might question a student's performance if they don't have the usual means of comparing them against other students in their school.
