Choosing the Right Law School / Help with scholarship bargaining...
« on: February 05, 2008, 11:18:45 AM »
I know there has been a couple threads on this before but I have a more specific question.

As of now, I want to go to GULC but I didn't receive a scholarship e-mail so it looks like I won't be receiving any merit aid.

UT has offered me in state tuition + $7,000 per year ($61,000 total)

USC has offered me $25,000 per year

I know there's no way they would match these offers but how do I tactfully ask if they could help me out...would I just say that I would prefer to attend GULC but the finances are an important factor in my decision? Is it too early to do this? Also, will GULC even consider UT and USC "peer schools"? I've heard that they consider themselves more in line with the top 10 but I really don't know...

Any advice is appreciated, thanks!!

Choosing the Right Law School / So now that I got in, how do I GET there?
« on: January 14, 2008, 09:53:04 AM »
I looked online over the weekend to check out flights to Ann Arbor for the ASW. Every travel site came up with nothing (I'm flying from San Francisco) there some other airport I should be flying into??

If it's this challenging for me to get there for the ASW, will I ever be able to come home if I actually enroll?

Law School Admissions / UCLA
« on: January 02, 2008, 03:11:42 PM »
I just got a call from a 310-825-XXXX number and being an alum, I knew it was a UCLA number. I immediately think it's a call from the Dean but....

it's a broadcast message from the new football coach Neiheisel introducing himself to the UCLA community. Seriously? I had no idea they could even do that. Biggest letdown ever :(

Law School Admissions / New Years Resolutions...

Well, it's that time of year..what are your New Years resolutions?

It can be law school application related or not, i.e. cutting back on LSD time or the obligatory "I wanna lose 10 pounds/get in shape"

Law School Admissions / Family and friends during application season..
« on: November 28, 2007, 11:54:22 AM »
Anyone else getting really frustrated with your family and friends ideas about your chances? My sister just wrote me an e-mail and asked "when you get into NYU and Columbia, when do you want to go visit because I'd like to come..." This is even after I discussed with her many times that they were reaches for me. For some reason, people who aren't well versed in the whole process seem to think "oh, you'll get in EVERYWHERE of course!"

Oh, and my mom would NOT stop bugging me about how I didn't apply to Harvard. She finally handed me the $80 to apply to shut me up.

Law School Admissions / Duke Status
« on: November 26, 2007, 10:00:33 AM »
I sent my app in on the 14th and they requested my report on the 15th.

My status checker has not been updated since the still says "completion pending" or whatever. I'm PT so I was hoping to hear soon. Should I call about my status or just wait it out? Anyone else have the same issue?

What would I use here:

"I received two Bachelor of Arts degrees in June (,/-/;) one in Political Science and one in Sociology."

I don't think it's a semicolon because the second part couldn't be a sentence on its own but I'm not sure.

Grammar experts please help!!

So it's coming down to the wire. I'm planning on submitting my apps this week and I'm putting the final touches on my PS. I need help with a sentence and whether i need a comma. Here it is:

"At the age of seven (comma?) I decided to pursue..."

Do I need a comma there? Thanks...

After several failed attempts to write a DS...Ive decided to bag the idea. Anyone else in the the same boat? I seriously feel like the only one...

Law School Admissions / Duke Priority Track question
« on: September 26, 2007, 08:15:26 PM »
I'm hoping to send my Duke app in a few weeks and I had a question about the PT. I'm definitely not an auto-admit, but it would be really wierd if I got waitlisted in October...when they say I'll have a decision in 10 days, does that include a deferral?
