Financial Aid / Scholarship offer - what to ask?
« on: January 31, 2007, 11:40:28 AM »
I've received scholarship offers from a few different schools and am trying to decide which is the best offer.  What questions should one ask the admissions office to determine the sustainability of the scholarship?  All of these scholarships have minimum GPA requirements, how can you determine the likelihood of maintaining the GPA, or how many people lose their scholarship after the 1st year?

Can you ask the admissions office what the curve is, what % of the class has the required GPA, etc.?

What is the best way to approach this and are there any other aspects I should be looking at when evaluating scholarship offers?

General Off-Topic Board / I AM NOT SANTA CLAUS!
« on: December 08, 2006, 08:06:22 AM »
At first this was cute, but now it's extremely annoying!!

Apparently, our 800# at work is VERY close to an 800# that is being advertised for kids to call and talk to Santa.  This morning I came in and checked the messages, there were 10 messages from little kids telling me what they want for Christmas.  And throughout the day kids keep calling and are like "Santa, is that you??"  and I say "no, I'm sorry ask your mommy to check the # again, this isn't Santa".  >:( GRRRRRR

The same thing happened last year.

Law School Admissions / Using fee waivers just for fun?
« on: October 27, 2006, 09:40:56 AM »
If you get a fee waiver but have no intention of going to that school should you still apply just to feel special about getting accepted?  Or is there also the benefit of maybe being offered scholarship money from that school and then using it as bargaining power with the school you really want to go to. Or could it back fire on you - the schools you really want to go to see the other schools you are applying to and decide to yield protect you?

Any thoughts?

Law School Admissions / Do t3 & t4 schools YP?
« on: October 27, 2006, 09:35:46 AM »
May sound silly, but do Tier 3 and Tier 4 schools ever yield protect?

I have a 164/3.69 and will be applying to all the law schools in Michigan (with the exception of Cooley).  My #s are too low for UofM and high for Wayne State, MSU, UofD Mercy.

I'm starting to get paranoid that UofM will reject me but then all the lower-ranked schools will also reject me for yield protecting.  Am I being crazy here? Someone please talk me down.

Minority and Non-Traditional Law Students / Proposal 2 and UofMich
« on: October 25, 2006, 10:06:04 AM »
For anyone who lives in would the passage of Proposal 2 affect UofM's admissions?  Or does their Supreme Court ruling over-rule any law that may be passed in the state?  If they  stick to their Supreme Court ruling over State law could that affect their standing as a Public university and state-funding?

Choosing the Right Law School / Rankings History

Is there a website that shows the USNWR Rankings (or other ranking system) over an extended period of time, say 10 years, so you can follow the ups and downs of a particular school?
