2L job search / spring internship advice
« on: December 21, 2008, 11:42:23 PM »
Which internship experience would prove to be "better-looking" on the resume for law firms?  FTC (Federal Trade Commission) or Bank of America in house.  I have done externships for a while but this is a tough decision to make (altho a good dilemma).  Both would look great on the resume, but I am looking for one that will provide the best opportunity to get a law firm job eventually.  Basically, which one would law firms like better??

Any advice would help, thanks

2L job search / website: where students were hired at their schools
« on: July 16, 2008, 12:53:33 PM »
Does anyone here know the website where students annonymously list which law firms they get hired from in addition to their credentials?
I remember coming it across it once, but I forgot the website.  It's an extremely helpful site which lists every law school and the students post their credentials, hiring firms, and if they were hired or not.
Please, if anyone has any idea, post for everyone here, thanks

Transferring / What is the ACTUAL transfer process??
« on: May 19, 2008, 04:37:12 PM »
I am a PT at a T3/T4 school and I want to transfer to FT in a different school for personal/academic reasons in addition to testing out the transfer market.  The schools I want to transfer to have a checklist of what I have to complete (including a statement why I want to transfer) and when to send it by, but it seems as if the same application as 0L's are used for transfers as well.
So my question is do I have to fill out the PS that pre- 1Ls write IN ADDITION to a transfer statement?  In other words, do I have to complete the entire application (PS, optional statement) or is a transfer statement enough?
If yes, since I applied to some of these schools pre-1L, should I write a "new" PS/optional statement?

Where should I go next fall? / Hofstra PT or Southwestern PT
« on: July 19, 2007, 10:48:21 AM »
I am having trouble deciding on which school to attend...and need advice fast!
I just received a call from SW saying I got accepted to their PT program and that I have one day to decide.  I know the basic question is where do I want to end up working, but I don't think it's that easy.  I really like both schools, visited both, and enjoyed the atmosphere at both.  I feel that Hofstra is in competition with the other NYC city schools, all of which have a leg up on Hofstra.  So, even considering the bigger market, it is going to be difficult to find a good job in NYC.  But, NY is NY and does have many more firms to apply to.
Now, SWlaw has a solid reputation in LA even for a tier3.  The job market there isn't as fierce or as big as NY so I feel I can obtain a better job out there (just my opinion).  Choosing SW means I would have to make a complete move, buy a car, apt, etc which means more money over Hofstra where I would be commuting from home.
In terms of quality of school, they are similar.  But which is better in its respectful area?  Also, which school will give me the best opportunity to land a great job hopefully in a mid to big firm?  Any advice would be extremely helpful at this point...thanks

Where should I go next fall? / Quinnipiac, Hofstra, and SW
« on: April 14, 2007, 06:13:41 PM »
Any comments comparing these schools besides their locations?  All tier3 schools and respected in each of their locations but which would is just better in general?

Intangibles such as faculty, library, surrounding area, specific programs or what each school is known for would also help tremendously.

I don't have much time to decide because I received their decisions recently.

Finally, is PT in these schools worth it over FT in a lower tiered school??

Where should I go next fall? / Southwestern LAW

I got waitlisted here and wondering what are the chances of being admitted.  I know many ppl apply here as a safety and the school tends to have many withdrawn apps.  What do ppl think?

Where should I go next fall? / hofstra vs quinnipiac
« on: April 11, 2007, 03:56:56 PM »
Can anybody, regardless of the situation, tell me anything about these two schools?  I know this is a very broad question but they are both t3, quinnipiac in conn and hofstra in Long Island.  Im more curious about job prospects, OCI, and in general which is the better school to go to.  Abroad programs, strength in particular programs, where graduates work...

Any input would help...thanks

did anyone else receive an email saying congratulations on your acceptance but haven't received any hard copy?  I don't know if this is real bc they do not have any "accepted students" site to log in to.

Anyone get this also?

Law School Applications / SW LAW app
« on: January 15, 2007, 02:16:42 PM »
did anyone else check their application status online and be considered complete, but then a few weeks later have it considered Incomplete?  How is that possible?  It just seems very strange for that to happen
