For those of you who made this oft-criticized (particularly on this board) decision, what exactly compelled you to choose NYU over Columbia?  And for those of you who didn't, what prevented you from making the decision?

I certainly had reasons to go NYU (based more on instinct and visceral reactions rather than cold reason), but after talking with others, I found myself continually doubting my initial perceptions of the school.  I'd rather not go into details since I'd love to hear your opinions rather than an affirmation or criticizing of my own, but I can easily explain my situation over PM.

Thanks, guys.  Seriously, now that the cycle is winding down, I can't thank this board enough for all its helpful (if not cynical) members.

Law School Applications / Quick Question about Need Access
« on: February 12, 2008, 01:52:43 PM »
My parents don't intend on filing their taxes until the end of the month, but Northwestern's FA deadline is fast approaching.  Is it possible to do the Need Access form for one school and, if necessary, do another one for schools after my parents are done?  I don't know the exact details of my parents' financial situation so I'm sure there'd be discrepancies between the two.

And does Need Access even allow you to submit multiple forms?

Law School Applications / Deferred at Harvard
« on: February 05, 2008, 12:46:38 PM »
Hey guys,

Just got an e-mail from Harvard that sounds a lot like a deferral.  It welcomes any additional LOR's and a letter indicating any special interest I have in attending Harvard (a Why Harvard?).

Did anyone else get this?  I was expecting a flat out rejection so this is actually welcome news.

Law School Applications / Quick Question on Behalf of a Friend
« on: January 09, 2008, 06:55:45 PM »
If you have a few incompletes on your transcript and you re-take them so they are then reflected as A's, will the incompletes be reflected in your LSDAS GPA?  I have a friend who is planning on doing this to boost her GPA, but I didn't know it was actually possible.

Sorry I would post my question there but this place seems to get the most eye traffic.

Law School Applications / Crazy Thought
« on: December 25, 2007, 06:39:24 AM »
Considering all the madness propagating around this forum in getting into the top T14 (if such a distinction indeed exists), what do you guys think would happen if Harvard suddenly decided to shrink it's class size down to that of Yale/Stanford?  From what I recall, that would be a reduction from about 500 to 200 students per class, meaning we'd have 300 more applicants with ridiculous #'s, experiences, and the like crowding out spaces in the top programs.

In light of this holiday season, I'm kind of thankful to have Harvard soak up such a large chunk of that pool.  Shame on Yale for not accepting more!

Law School Applications / Two completion e-mails from same school....
« on: November 28, 2007, 04:43:59 PM »
I applied to NYU at the end of October and received a 'completion' e-mail on the 21st of November.  A week later, though, I got another e-mail from them (the same exact one, in fact) telling them I was now complete.

Do you think someone may have messed up and re-sent the e-mail on accident?  Should I call to verify that everything's ok or will I come off as an overachieving gunner?

Law School Applications / Stupid Mistakes on Applications
« on: November 13, 2007, 05:07:03 PM »
So I checked my applications pretty thoroughly before sending them out, but after reviewing them again a week later, I've caught three small errors:

- Forgot to include country in place of birth for UPenn
- Extra dash after one of my extra-curricular activities
- Comma instead of period in address abbreviation

Only two out of 12 applications are affected, but I was wondering:

1. If anyone had made the same kinds of mistakes in their applications (just to get a feel for how frequently this happens), and
2. Whether this will affect our chances at admission in any way.

I know I'm sounding OCD/anal retentive but just wanted to get a gauge on this.

And no Cooley jokes, please.
