Job Search / Describe your responsibilities...
« on: June 09, 2006, 06:23:31 AM »
I'm curious what sorts of experiences folks are having/have had in their 1L summer jobs, particularly if you worked in PI/government (DA/US Attorney's offices, Judges' chambers, etc.) What sorts of responsibilities were you given in those offices, and what was your day-to-day life like?

Incoming 1Ls / SCOTUS Clerkship numbers for 07-08 term
« on: January 11, 2007, 08:51:48 AM » in case anyone is interested. A lot of them aren't confirmed, but several are sourced by law school deans.

Not to overstate how important this is as an indicator of school quality, but things look great this year for Northwestern - they've got 3 SCOTUS clerks next term (only 1 of which is with Stevens). Penn looks pretty good too.

Anyone else heading to NU in the Windy City this fall?

Incoming 1Ls / Chicago roommate search, fall 2007
« on: November 12, 2006, 10:52:33 AM »
Though it's early, I'm hoping to start a back-and-forth on here with anyone who sees themselves ending up in Chicago for school starting next fall. I'm a deferred admit at NU and will be moving from the DC area to Chicago then to start as a 1L, and am hoping to find a roommate/roommates for that year.

I'm pretty open as to neighborhoods, though I'm probably looking for something outside of Gold Coast/Streeterville and on the North side. As for me, I'm a 22 year old guy. I graduated in December '05 (majored in Government) and worked as a paralegal in DC for a few months. Right now I'm working with a non-profit and traveling a lot. Pretty laid back and flexible; if you're interested in talking more, feel free to post back or PM me. Thanks.

Choosing the Right Law School / How does Gonzaga Law School Compare
« on: July 07, 2006, 02:02:58 PM »
Does it have any particular strengths or stand-out points that would make it a worthwhile law school? Where is it in the rankings? I only  ask because I noticed the other day that, at my biglaw firm in DC, we have a number of law schools' law reviews in our library. All of them are top 10 or DC schools: Harvard, Yale, NYU, Columbia, Georgetown, UChicago, Duke, etc....except for Gonzaga. I can't put my finger on why we have theirs. None of the major partners went there. So why?

General Off-Topic Board / Travel Guide for the US?
« on: July 03, 2006, 06:42:58 AM »
I'm going to be traveling extensively across the US with a new job for 9 months beginning in August, and am looking for a good guidebook to help me find interesting places to visit during my travels. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Incoming 1Ls / Teaching UG
« on: June 30, 2006, 09:56:10 AM »
Anyone out there interested in the possibility of going back and teaching at a UG school one day? I've thought about this some and wonder if it's at all common without having a Ph.D. Anyone care to comment? (If you do, please have something more to contribute than "It's not possible"  :))

General Off-Topic Board / Relationships and being a 1L
« on: June 21, 2006, 08:02:13 AM »
I was hoping to talk to other folks with SOs who are planning on continuing their relationship when they begin their 1L year, whether you live in the same town/city or not. I'm going to be moving to the city where my girlfriend lives to attend law school (for a number of reasons, her situation included), and am curious how you expect it to go, what your specific situation is like etc. If any students/grads are reading this or have any experiences or insights they'd like to share, that would be great. Thanks!
