I am receiving small amounts of $ in federal loans from my law school (Boalt), but over the course of three years it's probably not going to be enough. So, I am receiving a private loan - with a private loan, you have to request a certain amount. I figure I'll need at most $50,000 to cover additional expenses that my federal loans, personal assets and parental help can't cover, so I requested $50,000. Should I be requesting only what I need in one year, or did I do it correctly in requesting the total I will need over the full three years?

Law School Applications / Stanford News?
« on: March 22, 2007, 02:14:16 PM »
I'm still waiting on Stanford, and it's late March. I was complete in November, and haven't heard a word since then. Is it worth it to call? My top two choices are Stanford and Boalt - I've been accepted to Boalt (in early Dec.) and would like to be able to notify them that I am attending.

Has anyone else been waiting for a long time and taken it upon themselves to call? I don't want to call if others have called and been rebuffed with the typical "still reviewing applications..." shtick.

Law School Applications / Where to find LSAT PDF's
« on: July 01, 2006, 12:31:36 AM »
If anyone could point me in the direction of some PDF format LSAT exams from the past, that would be extremely helpful. I need to get off my ass and start preparing for that thing, and I'd really like to have the electronic copies. I'd be very grateful for any help.

Also, I know this probably belongs on the LSAT board, but nobody really responded, so I'm hoping for better luck this time.

Studying for the LSAT / Best way to buy latest prep tests?
« on: June 01, 2006, 01:51:38 PM »
I'm going to start studying for the Sep/Oct LSAT in a couple of weeks, and I need to get the latest practice tests. What's the best way to do that? From what I've seen on here, the books you can buy in a normal book store appear to be older tests, but there is some way to obtain the more recent tests. Suggestions?

I am not applying until the next cycle, but I was curious why some people have high GPA's in their degree, like above a 3.9, but there adjusted GPA is lower, like a 3.2? Also, what makes a GPA go up?

From what I know about the whole thing, it is probably due to transfer credits - like if you have credits from a community college from high school or you transferred from one university to another, etc, that could make your LSAC go up or down but won't affect the GPA from your degree granting institution. Is that mostly correct?

Reviews, Visits, and Rankings / Visiting Boalt prior to acceptance
« on: April 19, 2006, 02:06:11 PM »
I am flying down to Oakland this weekend, getting there early Friday afternoon, and I was planning on going across the bay to see Boalt, as it is currently my #1 choice for the next application cycle and I want to see if I should keep it that way. If anyone on here visited Boalt before they even applied there, what did you find helpful? Did you set up an appointment with admissions, visit classes/classrooms, or just take a general tour of the law school? Other comments?
