Law School Admissions / Do schools nitpick about course loads?
« on: October 23, 2006, 09:14:22 AM »
If I take a four course courseload in my first semester (5 is considered a full courseload) and six in my second, will law schools nitpick about that? There was no useful course for me to take in first semester, and there were a lot in second, so I ended up signing up for a lot then. Do you think it would hinder me in any way? A lot of schools say they like students to take full course loads. Do you think I can offset the lighter course load in first semester with my heavier course load in the second?

Am I just worrying for absolutely no reason?

Law School Admissions / Got an excessive speeding ticket! =x
« on: May 30, 2006, 09:36:28 PM »
Got an excessive speeding ticket earlier today... 92km/h in a 50 km/h zone. Oh my, that was stupid.

While I am sure I am worrying too much, it has me thinking about my law school apps where I need to mention any tickets I have received. In Canada we don't have any online driving schools or mandatory driving schools for offenders, so I was thinking of just taking an online course for one of the states in the USA just as a note I can add when I disclose the ticket. It's a 12 hour online course designed for individuals who have received 12 points in 12 months or less in florida and is DMV approved there. Do you think there is any point in doing this? That way I could frame this on my app as doing it without being required to in order to try and "remedy" for what I have done.

Any feedback is appreciated.

My school has a rather odd grading system (I go to a Canadian school) and it is possible that I could finish my undergraduate degree with a 3.8 degree GPA but a 4.0 LSDAS GPA (this is an extreme, but it is possible).

Would they judge me on my LSDAS GPA or my degree GPA when applying?

Thanks in advance!

Studying for the LSAT / Is the LSAT due for a change?
« on: May 18, 2006, 12:17:36 AM »
I've been lurking around on some other forums and some people seem convinced that it will be madeover in the coming years. Any thoughts on this? And if they do change the test, do they typically give years of advanced notice, or shorter?

Thanks! :)

Law School Admissions / Which would you choose? and why?
« on: May 13, 2006, 08:47:52 PM »
Both scenarios ultimately result in 500 hours of preparation, I'm curious to see what others think!

A) 500 hours split up over a 2 month period, 8 1/3 hours per day.
B) 365 hours split up over a 1 year period, 1 hour per day.

No escalation for either situation near exam time.

Do you think the long term benefits of studying would outweigh the fact that you won't be spending higher hours when the exam is imminent?

Not actually planning on following either course ;) Just curious.

Law School Admissions / What are some good EC's to get involved in?
« on: May 10, 2006, 09:37:36 PM »
I'm sure there are many like me, but I imagine most don't say it! ;) I'm not really passionate about anything, and the purpose of my EC's will be to impress LS's. Now that I have said the portion that will likely get me flamed ;), does anyone have any reccomendations of some good organizations to get involved with? Do any look better than others? And is an EC only very useful if you rise up to a high position in that organization? I feel compelled to start my own club that does something because it seems that it would be most the beneficial to my app, would I be incorrect in assuming that?

to work hard to get the A+'s? Or should I use the extra time I would spend doing that on EC's etc?
