1L job search / Summer Work and Vacations
« on: June 23, 2006, 07:24:45 PM »
hey there...0L here wondering about the timing for summer jobs.  My school will end mid-May and begin again end of August.  When you get a summer job as a 1L does it generally go right from the end of classes to the beginning of 2nd year or is there often a break of a week or so on either side?  just wondering if a vacation with the family would be at all possible or if i should just forget all of that for the next 3 years.

thanks!

General board for soon-to-be 1Ls / UC DAVIS HERE I COME!
« on: April 16, 2006, 07:57:40 PM »
Well, I did it.  I finally made a decision and decided on going to UC Davis and I am very excited now.  I even went up there this weekend and rented a place for the fall.  Now all I need to do is pack and move at the end of July!

Anyway, word of advice for those of you planning on going...start thinking about a place soon.  Most places are beginning to rent now for August 1st and September 1st leases.  As it is a large undergrad town plus law school, vet school and med school the places will go fast and it will get harder and harder as the summer drags on.  As I drove through town on Saturday the signs were everywhere "renting now for fall".  Just thought I would give you all a heads up!

Anyone else out there definitely heading to Davis?

Where should I go next fall? / Tough Decision - Advice?
« on: March 20, 2006, 11:57:15 AM »
Ok -- here are the choices I have narrowed things down to (in no particular order with their USNWR ratings)- any advice would be appreciated

GW (currently live in CA and not sure I want to move to DC) (#20)
U of SF with $$ (Tier 3)
U Pacific McGeorge with $$ (#90)
UC Davis (#32)
UC Hastings (#39)

Felt very drawn to USF on the visitor days and class visits.  It is a very cooperative environment with friendly students and very accessible administration and professors.  The others I am visiting within the next few weeks.  Have heard some scary stories about Hastings with regard to uber-competitiveness, large classes, inaccessible faculty - hear it once and you can dismiss it, hear it numerous times and you start to believe it.  Would like to eventually work in public interest law probably in the SF Bay Area.  Really torn based on ratings, $$, and obvious regional competitiveness with the likes of Boalt and Stanford.

any thoughts?
