Visits, Admit Days, and Open Houses / USC Preview Day Reviews
« on: April 22, 2006, 01:51:19 PM »
i guess i'll start this...

Having grown up in Westwood (and therefore conditioned to HATE anything Trojan related), I went into this with very, very low expectations. However, I was pleasantly surprised.

First off, the current students were VERY friendly and happy. the atmosphere was obviously very laid back, cooperative, fun. the class size is fairly small, so that is a plus. the mock class we had (property) was interesting and i thought professor altman was engaging. i wasn't thrilled with the dean, but then, how often do you have to deal with the dean? he did, however, seem to really be interested in making USC excel. i thought the career services and student affairs people were very competent and knowledgable, which more than makes up for my ambivalent feelings towards the dean.

the USC alumni network is legendary, and talking with current students and the alumni panel only confirmed this. what i was also impressed with were the other new admits. everyone seemed very intelligent, friendly, and laid back. it was a great group!

the only gripes i have with the school are the fact that it's more of a commuter school (though the students seemed close despite this) and i'd have to deal with LA traffic on a daily basis. also, the facilities were very mediocre. the classrooms did not have electrical sockets at each desk and the library was dismal.

overall i really liked it, was very impressed, and now have a tough tough decision on my hand!

what did the rest of you think?

Anyone know how the UCLA waitlist works? is it ranked? how many of their waitlist applicants eventually get in?

Law School Admissions / quick addendum question

who do i address them to?

"to whom it may concern"?
"dean so and so"?
"members of the admission committee"?

Law School Admissions / Anyone else feel sorry for their safety?
« on: February 26, 2006, 02:25:45 PM »
My safety (GW) accepted me early on in the game and has been courting me ever since. But I know that if I get accepted to my top choices (Boalt and Columbia), I will drop GW like a hot potato. I almost feel bad dropping them after all the stuff they've sent me, phone calls, and an "alumni reception for newly admitted students" in my city.

Any one else feeling guilty?

Law School Admissions / Dumb Question

Law School Admissions / to addendum or not to addendum
« on: February 22, 2006, 12:38:13 AM »
even though i got my applications in very early (late october), it has now been brought to my attention that i possibly should've sent an addendum.

here's my situation: i spent a year abroad at a well respected institution, where i got straight As. of course, these grades aren't factored into my LSAC gpa, making my overall gpa lower than it should be. now, i had this school send transcripts to LSAC, and LSAC supposedly forwarded copies of the transripts to law schools.

but i am wondering if i should call/email the schools (particularly gpa-crazy boalt) and bring this fact to their attention? i originally didn't do it because i figured it was obvious....but i think now all this waiting has gotten me paranoid about every move i made during the application procedure!
