How did you get it?

What was involved?

What school gave it to you?

Any advice on how to ask for it?

(I am not talking about those who got scholarships that brought you down to in-state, I mean those who had to ask for it.)

I've been reading all the posts on this site over the past few years, but there seems to be a lot of contradicting information about it. Can anyone relay their personal experiences with or opinions on the school?

How hard is it to get in-state tuition as an out-of-stater? When can you get it?
Is the low rank worth the low cost?
Do the placement statistics accurately reflect reality?
Is the area safe?

I am going to try to visit soon, but I want to have a concept of what I am getting into before then.

Thanks guys!

Choosing the Right Law School / Cardozo PT (May start) vs. American PT?
« on: February 18, 2008, 08:23:53 AM »
Ok... So I would not post this if I didn't have to make a fast decision. My choices (so far) are Cardozo and American. I am going to call some schools this week and let them know that I need a decision soon.

See LSN link for info.

Cardozo:
  • Estimated COA = $182,910
  • Starts this May
  • 3 Year program
  • Day classes
  • Some 1L classes are taken with FT students
  • Trasfer to FT automatic
  • Spoke to admissions person, they discourage working.
Graduates known to be employed at graduation: 73.2%
Graduates known to be employed nine months after graduation (including 25 percent of those with unknown status): 98.3%
Starting Salaries (2005 Graduates Employed Full-time)
Private sector (25th-75th percentile): $90,000 - $125,000
Median in the private sector: $90,000
Percent in the private sector who reported salary information: 60%
Median in public service: $50,000
Law firms: 60%
Business/industry (legal): 16%

American:
  • Estimated COA = $170,488
  • 3 or 4 year program. If I want to graduate in 3 years I'll have to go to school both summers.
  • Evening classes
  • Transfer to FT not automatic.
  • Have found admissions staff to be very rude, dismissive, and cannot answer a question with a straight answer.
  • I will most likely have to get a job after 1st semester.
Graduates known to be employed at graduation: 83.4% (This may be due to more govt. jobs that require bar passage)
Graduates known to be employed nine months after graduation (including 25 percent of those with unknown status): 97.8%
Starting Salaries (2005 Graduates Employed Full-time)
Private sector (25th-75th percentile): $52,000 - $125,000
Median in the private sector: $80,000
Percent in the private sector who reported salary information: 79%
Median in public service: $48,000
Law firms: 42%
Business/industry (legal): 12%

General:
  • I will be taking on full debt at both schools.
  • The order of importance for me is: Cost of attendance & Cost of living after grad. vs Career Prospects; Location; Rank.
  • I would love to work with music copyrights or entertianment/IP in general but I know that is a long shot w/o a hard science... but I'll be happy doing any sort of business/corporate law.
  • I don't care about biglaw, I just want to pay back my debt
  • The SO will most likely stay behind, but he is NYC for extended periods and we have family in VA so either one works in that dept.

I know neither one is a great option, but they are my only real options at the moment. What do you think?

Responding to him just makes it worse.

(Yes I understand the irony of this thread.)
