General Board / How to find new case filings?
« on: July 10, 2011, 04:53:37 PM »
I would like to start a newsletter that summarizes new case filings in California.  The problem is that I don't know how to find these new complaints, other than by going to the clerks office.  Does anyone know any other way that I can find these filings, ideally i would like to find them online...  I'm looking for the complete filing that I would then summarize into a simple paragraph.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

I'd like to start making a network of lawyers and could use a list of lawyers contact information, especially their e-mails.  I don't mind writing down each one by myself, I just don't know of a place that would list their e-mail addresses...

So I applied to UC Hastings in mid-January.  It's a real toss up school for me, I have a 163 LSAT and 3.5 GPA so I'm right on the cusp.  Right after applying I received this automated e-mail saying...

"From this point forward, we kindly request that you not submit supplemental application materials (e.g. updated resumes, revised personal statements, or additional letters of recommendation) as we will not be able include them as part of your file. This request does not pertain, however, to addenda or corrections related to the four character questions on page two of the application.

Admissions decisions are made on a rolling basis beginning in mid-January. Please note that although we make every effort to review applications in a timely manner, it may take several weeks before the Admissions Committee is able to evaluate your file. We kindly ask that you not contact the Office of Admissions to ascertain the status of your application, as this will only serve to slow the process down. All other inquiries are welcome."

Hastings is one of my first choice schools and if I got in I would likely go.  So my question is: Can I contact them somehow to let them know I'm still very interested without getting on their nerves?  Or is it best to just wait for the application decision?

Reviews, Visits, and Rankings / Is Pepperdine Worth It?
« on: March 16, 2011, 04:01:48 PM »
I'm having an extremely hard time deciding whether or not Pepperdine is a worthwhile investment.  After paying interest on all my debts I'll be paying back $250,000 over ten years.  Are there any current Pepperdine students or recent alums out there who can offer some realistic insight?

Where should I go next fall? / Pepperdine or Ohio State?...please help
« on: March 14, 2011, 12:49:39 PM »
So it's come down to Pepperdine and Ohio State for me.  Pepperdine has offered me $15,000 per year provided that I stay in the top third of my class.  Their projected cost of attendance is $65,678 per year.  So after factoring in the scholarship (assuming I will be in the top third each year), it will cost me a total of $152,034 to go to Pepperdine.

Ohio State has offered me $8,500 per year provided that I maintain a 2.5 GPA.  Their projected cost of attendance for nonresidents is $60,264 and for residents is $45,314.  If I attend Ohio State I will receive resident status for my second and third year, meaning a total projected cost of attendance of $125,392 after factoring in my scholarship offer.

Now that you know the facts I have, I would GREATLY appreciate any advice or words of wisdom you can provide.  I'll be visiting both schools in April, but it seems as though I'll have better job options coming from Ohio, but will have more fun in California...

Where should I go next fall? / Where would you go?
« on: February 02, 2011, 02:10:32 PM »
I'd like to know where you think I should go?  Listing your top 3 choices in order would also be awesome.  I'm from the Boston area and have lived here all my life.

- UC Hastings
- Cardozo & Yeshiva
- Cincinnati
- Colorado
- Ohio State
- University of the Pacific (Plus $25,000 per year)
- Pepperdine (Plus $15,000 per year)
- Temple
- Washington & Lee
- William & Mary

If you have a minute to explain your rationale as well I would appreciate that.

Thanks!

This may sound silly, but is it okay to send a letter of continued interest to a REACH school that has not given me a decision either way yet.  I submitted my application 7 weeks ago, have not heard back, and am pretty sure will be denied.  My thought process is that if I'm likely going to be denied anyways, a letter describing why I want to go there specifically can't hurt.  Or can it?

Reviews, Visits, and Rankings / Tell me EVERYTHING about Pepperdine
« on: January 20, 2011, 03:31:34 PM »
Got accepted to Pepperdine Law and I'd like to know as much as I can about it.  I've done my own reading, but specifically I want to know about BigLaw prospects out of Pepperdine, and the likelihood of being able to transfer to USC, UCLA, or Berkeley after the first year at Pepperdine.
