Politics and Law-Related News / Some inconvenient truths…for Gore
« on: June 14, 2006, 08:49:29 AM »

I especially like this quote concerning Gore:

"The man is an embarrassment to US science and its many fine practitioners, a lot of whom know (but feel unable to state publicly) that his propaganda crusade is mostly based on junk science."

Even though I have not heard back on all of my applications  :( I am facing seat deposit deadlines and need to arrive at a decision soon.  I wish to stay in the Southeast after law school and regardless of where I go, my wife will need to find a job (she is a social worker).  I am certainly tempted by the prestige of Duke, but Vandy, W&L, and UNC are all interesting choices as well.  Debt is a concern to me, but not an overriding concern.  So do I overlook the debt and attend Duke or do I make a more economically sensible choice and go to one of the other four choices?  If you were me and had these choices which would you attend?

I appreciate any feedback/comments as well.

Visits, Admit Days, and Open Houses / Who went to Vandy on March 24th?

I am curious what people thought about the law school, as well as the Nashville area.  I visited Vandy back in December of last year, and I will be attending the next Admitted Students day on the 7th of April, but I am interested in hearing what other prospective students think about the school.

Choosing the Right Law School / Wake Forest Fletcher Scholarship
« on: February 17, 2006, 04:35:36 PM »
Does anyone know anything about the Fletcher scholarship at WF?  I received an email inviting me to attend the competition for it, and I am trying to gauge how stiff the competition might be.  Has anyone else been invited to attend or know anything about it?

Choosing the Right Law School / What are my chances???
« on: January 16, 2006, 11:22:19 PM »
I have a 3.91 GPA and scored an average of 168 on the LSAT (163 in OCt and 172 in Dec).  I wrote an addendum explaining the reason for the divergent LSAT scores (my wife was plowed by a Honda CRV three weeks prior to the Oct LSAT...while walking down the sidewalk!!!).  I am in my early thirties, have prior military service, and worked an average of 30 hours a week during the last three years of undergraduate (this was in addition to a ninety minute round trip commute each day).  I also have my MS in Teacher Education.  The bad news is that my ECs are fairly weak, mainly due to the hours I worked as an undergrad.  I have applied to the following schools:

UNC - Chapel Hill
Washington & Lee
Wake Forest

I am concerned that I need to apply to more schools.  I am considering Emory, Georgia, and Tennessee.  What are my chances at the 8 I have applied to?  Should I consider adding a safety school or two?  Thanks for any replies.

Best Regards,
