Visits, Admit Days, and Open Houses / harvard chicago reception
« on: March 30, 2006, 09:36:43 PM »

I met a bunch of cool people at harvard's chicago reception at the W.  Any LSDer's?  I'm Dan, if you were there.

On another note, Toby was hysterical.  His comments about the new us news rankings were really priceless.

Law School Admissions / what % go to best-ranked school?
« on: March 01, 2006, 08:04:10 AM »
I was just clicking around lsn and it seems like so many people go to the best ranked school they get into?  I would assume these people are carefully considering their choices, but they always seem to end up with USNWR's opinion.  So, I'm just curious as to what you guys perceive as the percentage of students that pick the top-ranked school they can?  60%?  80%?  90%?

Law School Admissions / somebody hold me

I got an email today from harvard saying they never got my dean certification.  I called my school who had told me they were all sent over a month ago and all they could say is that they don't keep records.  Not a good day.

Law School Admissions / Yale a little arrogent?
« on: January 22, 2006, 11:54:43 AM »
I got an urgent feedback form from yale today in the mail.  "We searched the CRS database for students whose grades and LSAT scores suggest that they would be competetive applicants for Yale Law School, but who have not yet applied."

Form asks where I did apply.  Seems a little obnoxious.  Then again, I already applied last Friday right after they sent this.  So I guess they win.

Choosing the Right Law School / fastest rejection
« on: January 20, 2006, 08:18:04 AM »
Just out of curiosity, who holds the record for fastest time from complete to ding?

Hey everybody,

I wrote my personal statement, got some commentary, and based on that commentary, I tried a (very) different one.  I'm not sure the new one works and I need some opinions as to which to go with.

thanks a lot!

"The fattest city in America for 2006 is Chicago, taking over the dubious honor from Houston."

Get used to squeezing into half a seat on the el train, suckers!

I realized after I already had my profs fill out the form themselves and send it with their letters, that I couldve added them first and had their info on the recommendation form already.  I'm worried it will go slower without that info already in my file to match the letter with.  Should I still do the "add recommender" thing or is it too late?

Law School Admissions / Anybody else praying a lot?
« on: January 04, 2006, 06:28:20 PM »
Well, I know most of you are already done and just waiting for the good or bad news, but there must be some others in my position.  I got my transcripts and recs sent in last week, and now I'm just watching the days count by praying that my report gets done by Feb 1.  Still no word from lsac on anything :(.  I'm pretty sure my numbers will get me in at some good places, as long as I can get my damn application complete in time.  God I hope all the forms were filled out right and sent to the right place.  Somebody commiserate with me!

So I wrote my personal statement and the first half of it revolves around an experience I had on vacation.  I was fairly pleased until I read in a book that law schools get a lot of this type of essay and they rarely work.  So, I'd love to get some opinions as to whether or not mine works.  thanks in advance
