Transferring / Moral dilema question for those who have transferred
« on: January 26, 2007, 10:57:05 PM »
I transferred into the spring class.... I have 2 weeks under me.. all is well..

Just got an email from my old school inviting me onto law review (I graded on).

Question: Is there a way to put this invite onto my resume under the stuff I did at my previous school, like moot court and my book awards and stuff? (which I am still keeping on my resume for obvious reasons)

side note, I wont have the opportunity to write on to my new school's law review until after spring finals...

Transferring / T4 to T1
« on: January 04, 2007, 11:26:07 PM »
Ok, just got a call today and found out I was accepted (yes, TODAY, JAN 4th) at Univ. of Maryland. Classes start Jan 16th. Due to the fact my husband's orders (military) were changed from Tallahassee to D.C., looks like I will be going to U-MD instead of FSU...
craziness ensues...

I've heard this happens, though I didn't truly believe it...but do some schools really find a way to give you lower grades as a punishment for trying to transfer out? Sort of as a way to stick it to you?

I didn't believe it happened but now I am starting too...

Transferring / QUICK decision = Good or Bad?
« on: November 16, 2006, 06:15:26 PM »
Ok kids...

I applied for spring transfer to Florida State. My app got there Oct 31, everything else trickled in. Last week (Nov 9 Thursday afternoon, about 4pm) I called them and asked my status. They pulled the file, saw everything was in so she said she would pull it out and send it to comittee 'next week' (they were closed Friday Nov 10 for Veteran's Day).
So in theory it went to committee on Mon or Tuesday, realistically, right?

So today I call them (Nov 16, Thursday) to ask status since the status checker was showing I was still missing 2 letters of rec (even though I KNEW they had them.. I just wanted an excuse to call them). So she pulls my file, says they have them, it was a mistake and oh by the way, I went to decision. Letter was mailed out today. Of course, no hints on the phone as to what that decision was...

So my question is... with SUCH a FAST turnaround, is that generally a good thing or a bad thing? COnsidering spring transfer season, rolling admissions, complete deadline is Dec 1st, etc.

Also, do they ever email the decision or is it entirely by mail? (my mail man is not very reliable.. just today I got the viewbook in the mail...postmarked Nov 7th!)

Anyway, anyone care to humour me while I obsess until the letter gets here?

Thanks

Transferring / Yet ANOTHER possible transfer questions
« on: October 29, 2006, 05:04:35 PM »
I am currently in a T4 school. Ranked top 1% (at least until the end of the semester). High enough GPA that I shouldn't have any issues grading onto Law Review at the end of the semester  (i was a spring admit so don't have enough units to be eligible for LR until the end of this fall semester). I made the Moot Court team this summer. I am also a TA for legal writing and would be again next semester.

I am thinking about trying to transfer out (to Florida State) in spring (they indicate tehy do accept transfers in the spring). Am I crazy? I know I know.. T4 vs T1 should be a no brainer. I am just hoping I am not shooting myself in the foot by giving up Moot Court and my current class rank (and law review) by transfering out.

I just went through OCI and it sucked. We had very few firms, and while I did get callbacks at all three (top) firms I applied with, I didn't get any offers. I think my school name is a big hinderance. Oh, plus FSU is state tuition so financially MUCH better for me...

any thoughts? Overall and/or advice?

thanks in advance

Studying and Exam Taking / Thoughts on Estates and Future Interests?
« on: February 15, 2006, 08:46:01 PM »
We are about to start the lovely Estates and Future Interests.
Does anyone have a good supplement for them? By "good" I mean small and short.

I already have the E&E and the Understanding Property. But if there is anything out there specifically on EFI that would help other than what I already have...lay it on me...

Thanks in advance

General Board / School Curve
« on: January 08, 2006, 12:32:15 PM »
This is the recommended grade distribution for my school. What exactly does it mean in regards to the curve? Is it a C curve? A high curve? Low curve? Good, bad or indifferent?

Numbers are NOT my strong suit, therefore a reason I went to law school.

Thanks in advance

The recommended grade distribution for first-year courses is:
A, A- 15%
B+, B, B- 25%
C+, C, C- 45%
D+, D, F 15%

The recommended grade distribution for second and third year courses is:
A, A- 15%
B+, B 25%
B-, C+, C 45%
C-, D+, D, F 15%
