Studying for the LSAT / stuck in two LR questions. HELP :S !
« on: November 24, 2009, 08:52:42 PM »
Hi everyone,
I'm really confused with the below LR questions - would really appreciate it if you can help me out!

14. Scientist: A controversy in palentology centers on the question fo whether prehistoric human ancestors began to develop sophisticated tools before or after they came to stand upright. I argue that they stood upright first, simply because advanced toolmaking requires free use of the hands, and standing upright makes this possible.
Which most weakens the scientists' argument?

Answer: (B) Advanced hunting weapons have been discovered among the artifacts belonging to prehistoric human ancestors who did not stand upright

My answer: (E) Many of the earliest sophisticated tools did not require their users to be able to stand upright.
:-\ is this a wrong answer choice because "earliest sophistcated tools" and "their users" are just too vague?
I keep thinking that (B) and (E) are basically saying the same thing.. help!

7. Scientists removed all viruses from a seawater sample and then measured the growth rate of the plankton population in the water. They expected the rate to increase dramatically but the population actually got samller.
Which most helps to explain the unexpected result?

Answer: (C) Plankton utilize the nutrients released by the death of organisms killed by viruses

My answer: (D) The absence of viruses can facilitate the flourishing of bacteria that sometimes damage other organisms.
-->  :-\ again, is the wording in (D) too vague (i.e., "other organisms") to weaken the argument? If the scientist removed the viruses, and this condition can make a bacteria that damage the "plankton" flourish, this could lead to the decrease in the plankton's population, no????
I feel like there is something I am missing here.

Hi everyone,
any thoughts on chances for 173 and 3.84 -Major in political science   ???
