Where should I go next fall? / Tulane 1L, taking Qs

Where should I go next fall? / Dear Wisconsin,
« on: May 03, 2006, 12:49:52 PM »
Dear Wisconsin, Alabama, Case, and Houston,

In December I decided to apply to your fine institutions.  I filled out your applications, wrote essays, and perhaps most importantly, I gave you a good sized chunk of my hard-earned money.  I did this all with the sole expectation that I would receive a decision in a timely manner.  In January, my file was complete, due to more money that I paid to LSAC to send you  my transcripts.

It is now May, and I have yet to receive as much as a deferal from you.  No acceptance, no ding, no waitlist, not even so much as a hold.

Seriously, WTF?

Sincerely,

Kirsten191

Where should I go next fall? / FSU - should I put the deposit down?
« on: May 01, 2006, 07:40:19 PM »
Okay I was all set to go to Tulane, but I keep having second thoughts about how much it is gonna cost me - I will end up over $100k in debt (prolly like 120k after everything is said and done)

The FSU deposit is due today (like now!)  they have offered me instate tuition, so it would be like $25k/year, or about $75k debt total.

Someone talk me into or out of putting down the FSU deposit in the next hour ($200, which would mean raman noodles for the next month...)

Where should I go next fall? / amusing....
« on: April 08, 2006, 10:52:38 PM »
Today while sorting through my mail, I noticed a flyer from a random unaccredited school in Cali.  But before throwing it away, I noticed the schools name:

The Abraham Lincoln Law School

Does anyone else find it amusing that there is a law school named after someone who is famous for NOT GOING to law school?

General board for soon-to-be 1Ls / Anyone else having second thoughts?
« on: March 28, 2006, 02:10:03 PM »
Well, I got into my number one choice (Tulane) and the deposit (at least the first part of it) is in, but now I am having second thoughts about the prospects of taking out over $100,000 in student loans....especially when I could go to a state school and end up less than $40,000 in debt when I graduate....Add a new offer of instate tuition at FSU into the mix, and the fact that I am still waiting on Bama and Houston (umm, wtf Houston, my file has been in review for 2 months now!) and I have no idea what to do.

Anyone having second thoughts about their dream school with killer debts and the possibility of having to take a horrible job upon graduation just to pay it off, verses cheap state schools with decent job prospects?

Eh, this process stresses me out more and more each day....

Law School Applications / Poor high school seniors!
« on: March 08, 2006, 06:53:42 PM »
So I just heard on the news that they just found an error in one of the administrations of the SAT - where they scanned with the wrong answer key and told thousands of students (and the colleges that they are applying to) the wrong scores - in many cases like 200 points lower than they actually scored.  Kind of makes you wonder about the LSAT.....

Where should I go next fall? / Will I get into Tulane?
« on: March 03, 2006, 11:34:26 PM »
So after a long conversation with a Tulane admissions officer (who was extreamly efficient, btw - I was impressed) my file is going to be decided on this weekend....So, now that I am guaranteed not to sleep until next week, what do y'all think?  Will I get in, or get the dreaded DING from my first choice?

158 (156, 160 - they average), 3.5ish GPA from a state school.  I have also written them 3 (yeah, count em, three) letters about why they are my first choice (one unsolicited, one asked for a while ago, and one that the admissions officer said that I should write today), some good volunteer experience (saving starving children in africa and that whole bit), but not much in the way of work experience....

Let me have it, what do you think?  I know I am obsessing, I really can't do anything but obsess until I know one way or another.

Thanks everyone who votes/comments (yes, even if it is negative - at this point, I just want to know one way or another)

Financial Aid / really stupid question
« on: March 02, 2006, 07:30:39 PM »
Sorry guys, I have never done this before....I filled out the FASFA and sent it to all of my schools already.  I already know that I won't be eligable for grant money because of what my parents make, so I didn't fill any other school-specific forms - just planned on taking everything I need out in loans with a few bucks here and there from the 'rents.  Only a few of the schools that I applied to asked for these other school-specific forms, and they were all about what my parents income is and stuff, so I asked someone in my school's fin. aid office what to do, and she said that in my situation that I didn't need to do them.  Is this right - just getting a bit nervous - basically if all I want is the stafford loan, and then maybe a private one to cover living expenses/whatever is left over, then all I need to fill out is the FAFSA right?

Thanks so much y'all!
