Incoming 1Ls / Does client have a case?
« on: May 17, 2009, 11:40:45 AM »
Hope this is ok for this board as I searched for general discussion. I was asked this question and stated I'd put it out for replies...

Gentleman wakes up in the morning and commences drinking (7:00 AM). At 9 AM he calls friend who picks him up and they go out driving and he continues to indulge. They arrive at a resort (to be left nameless, a very plush and well known resort btw) and as an unregistered guest makes his way to the pool bar for guests only. He then drinks for another 30 minutes and goes to the smoking area which is by the ocean on a 20 foot cliff with no fence. Somehow he loses balances and falls bouncing off rocks and into the ocean. He is brought to shore by a surfer and is treated for cuts by a local ambulance but refuses to go to the hospital. He then gets a ride home where he finally calls an ambulance and goes to the hospital and has his injuries treated. No broken bones but monster scrapes and coral scratches. Hospital loads him up with demoral fentanyl and toradol and releases him to a local cab company with a diagnosis of acute alcohol intoxication. Is the hotel liable for the injuries suffered from the fall??

I read somewhere that you can apply to too many schools and that some schools look down on this.Is there a rule of thumb for law school applicants that are tier 3 and 4? In reviewing some of the website, I see people applying to a zillion schools and get rejected on a quite a few with numbers that should be able to back door them into an institution. Thanks for comments!

Incoming 1Ls / Schools that take cash and RUN!

Someone pointed out to me that there are ABA schools mostly 4th tier that accept people they think WILL FLUNK OUT just to collect the dollars that drive the machine. How true is this?

Law School Admissions / GPA calculation

I went to 3 diff undergrad schools. How does LSDAS calculate GPA? By going through every single class from each school or just taking the degree granting school GPA.

Incoming 1Ls / Help me understand.....

This is one schools philosphy...
The School of Law seeks to enroll academically qualified students who have demonstrated a commitment to public service and who are from communities that have been historically denied access to the bar.  The student body comes from a broad spectrum of society. The entering classes are as diverse in background and life experience as they are in ethnicity, gender, and age.

"The Admission Committee reviews academic credentials and admits only those who it believes will successfully complete the three-year program. Because the School of Law's mission is to admit and educate those who have been denied access to the bar, and who have demonstrated commitment to public service, the Committee's decisions are based on academic and non-academic criteria. The non-academic criteria include employment history; community service and volunteer work; family and educational background; family responsibilities; and recommendations that speak to the candidate's professional promise, judgment, integrity, character, skills, and leadership potential."

Forgive my naivety, but what exactly constitutes "those who have been denied access to the bar".....thanks
