Transferring / GULC w/ 10k grant or NYU/Columbia w/o grant?
« on: July 26, 2009, 06:58:36 PM »
I was recently admitted to GULC with a grant of 10k per year.  I am still waiting to hear from NYU and Columbia.  On the off chance I get admitted to either in the next few weeks, what do you think would be the better option.  I doubt NYU or Columbia will provide any money so the decision will come down to 10K with GULC or no money and NYU/Columbia.

I have an interest to work in the federal government or public interest generally but don't want to rule out firm work either.  I definitely want to stay on the east coast and preferably the north east such as NYC or Philly but like DC too.  Will top 5 schools make a real difference in my job search and should a total savings of 20k keep me from going for those top 5 schools?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Transferring / GUCL w/ Journal or NYU/CLS w/o?
« on: July 09, 2009, 05:23:11 PM »
Just curious on what you would do in this situation.  For clarification, what would be the "better" situation?  Attending GULC with membership on any of the 11 journals or attending either NYU or Columbia while not a member of any journal.

Transferring / Tranfer from T50 to GULC?
« on: January 28, 2009, 01:39:50 PM »
I was recently told that Georgetown accepts transfers from 1st semester 1L grades alone and it appears to be true (any other schools that do this?).  I guess I'm curious what my chances are of transferring as "early action."  I applied to GULC twice and was rejected twice but my heart lies in D.C. and am hoping I can get in nonetheless.  My first semester grades are as follows: CivPro A-, ConLaw A-, Contracts A-, Torts A-, and Legal Research/Writing A+.  My estimated gpa is a 3.75 (should find out tomorrow).  A few 2Ls say I'll probably be ranked in the top 10.  Any guesses on chances of getting into GULC?  I don't like Cincinnati and need to get out and only applied to my current school because they were the highest rank/cheapest law school I was accepted to.

Also, does anyone have any suggestions on what to talk about in a transfer personal statement?  Obviously you need to talk about why you want to transfer but should that be the focus of the statement or just an aspect.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!
