Choosing the Right Law School / Why Withdraw When You Can.....
« on: March 07, 2006, 06:01:58 AM »
Simply not send in the seat reservation?  The first seat reservations are due next month, so does it really help out other applicants to go through the trouble of withdrawing?

Won't schools know by the middle of April how many seats they'll have to fill from their waitlists?  Yes, I recognize that some people may send seat reservations to more than one school, but I'm sure the schools have reasonably accounted for that.

Choosing the Right Law School / T-20 Cage Match - GW vs. Vanderbilt
« on: March 01, 2006, 06:21:25 AM »
Now that it's March 1 and still haven't heard from the reaches, I'm going forward with my top 2 choices.  First, some things to consider -

1) I currently live in DC and love it.
2) I want to practice in the Northeast.

With that in mind, is there any argument for going to Vanderbilt?  Will there be opportunities available from Vandy that won't be available from GW?  Will recruiters go deeper into a class at Vandy than at GW?

Acceptances, Denials, and Waitlists / In at Vanderbilt

Thin white envelope...Assumed it was a waitlist when I found it in the mailbox.

Law School Admissions / More Evidence of LS Applications in Decline?
« on: February 07, 2006, 07:31:10 AM »
GULC has extended their application deadline to March 1.

Any reason for this other than that they haven't received the appropriate volume or quality of applicants to fill their class?  Why would they make their adcomms work harder unless application numbers are down?

Nefarious plan - increase app #s with the intent of rejecting the late applications to drive down accepted/applied yield ratios?

Have other schools extended their deadlines?

Moot Court: GW Law School's Moot Court Finals are next Thursday, and the panel is just about as intimidating as it gets in this business: Chief Justice John G. Roberts will preside, and will be joined by Judges Guido Calabresi and Sonia Sotomayor of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. I just hope no one gets flustered and tries to leave in the middle. As far as I know, this is the Chief's second moot court since his confirmation.

Listen to the MP3 of the guy who walks out of the Moot Court.  If the Chief Justice of SCOTUS was bearing down on me, I might walk out too.

Choosing the Right Law School / Applying to your UG's Law School...

Does it put you a favorable or unfavorable position?  Or does it matter at all?  I think there are two schools of thought here - 1) The school wants to expand its overall alumni base in order to gain more alumni donations, thus putting you at a disadvantage, or 2) The school wants to create uber-loyal graduates who are twice as likely to give, thus giving you a extra boost.
Of course, it may not matter one bit, just as long as you're in the LSAT range.  Thoughts?
