Choosing the Right Law School / Univ of Washington-Status Checker
« on: February 04, 2009, 02:06:51 PM »
My UW status checker says "in review" and Decision Letter 02/06/2009. Does anyone else have a similar one, or did anyone else's say this when they got an acceptance letter? Thanks.

Choosing the Right Law School / Scholarship Negotiation?
« on: February 02, 2009, 08:43:28 AM »
I tried to search for this in case it was posted already, however, the search function is acting up. I am wondering if anyone knows if you can “negotiate scholarships” with a university. I have heard of people doing this and I am wondering if anyone has suggestions on a tactful way to go about it, or has had success.

Here is the scenario:

I got accepted PT to a university that I would really like to attend. Tuition is around 38k. I did not receive any kind of scholarship offer. If I even received a thousand dollars, it would probably seal the deal and I would feel much better attending.

I also got accepted FT to a university with a slightly higher ranking than the first and a scholarship offer of $10k.

Is it possible to approach the first university and tell them that I really want to attend however, the money issue is of concern and show them that the second university, with a slightly higher ranking, has offered me money and ask them to consider doing the same?

I am not sure that this is the correct place to post this question, and I searched and could not really find an appropriate does anyone have advice on the proper way to ask a certain school for a fee waiver. For example: got an email inviting me to apply, no fee waiver :( is there a polite way to email back and say that I am very interested in applying however, I would request a fee waiver to do so?

Personal Statements, Resumes, and Letters of Recommendation / LOR help
« on: September 23, 2008, 10:37:50 AM »
Here’s the deal: I asked my boss 2 months ago for a LOR. He has been an atty for 41 years, very well known in the area, alum of one of the schools I would really like to attend.  I reminded him over the weekend (very politely) that I would like it asap. He told me to put my modesty aside, write the letter and that he would put stuff in and change as needed. I had no idea that he would do this; it is too late now to ask anyone else. And so I am just going to do it like he wants, only I cannot think of anything to say. Please help!!

I have done a 2nd(ish) draft of my PS. Would anyone be willing to look over it? I will trade. Thanks

Law School Admissions / How many schools should I apply to?
« on: September 17, 2008, 11:22:59 AM »
I am having trouble deciding. I only want to apply places that I really do want to go, obviously I want to have safety schools. But it gets expensive to apply to too many places. Does anyone have a magic number suggestion?

Law School Admissions / Is it looked down upon to handwrite applications
« on: September 16, 2008, 11:29:49 AM »
I am more comfortable handwritting applications and submitting everything together than doing via LSAC. I can't find any information as to whether this is seen as a negative or not, or whether law schools prefer that applications are submitted via lsac. Anyone have any ideas?
