Transferring / stay at T4 v. Transfer to T1
« on: July 03, 2007, 02:44:49 PM »
Here's my situation. I've done well at a T4 in MA. I'm 2nd in the class and have some academic awards. I anticipate getting a decent scholarship as a result. I will be on law review should I chose to stay.

I've been accepted at a T1 in CT, the state I currently reside in and plan to work in post graduation. I will obviously lose the chance at LR, lose my class standing, and it's unknown at the moment what the economic repercussions will be as I haven't received any scholarship info from the T4 as of yet, but pre-scholarship cost of attending the T1 would save me $10K a year as I'd be eligible for instate tuition.

The T4 is well respected in CT, however the T1 does have an advantage as its local. The larger firms in the area hire from both schools, however the T1 has a larger representation in these firms.

I plan to talk to some local attorneys about my situation, but what do you guys think? What would you do in my shoes? What do you see as the pro's and con's here?

General Board / T4 to UCONN transfer
« on: June 28, 2007, 02:38:47 PM »
I realize that this post is under 'transfers' too, but this board gets more traffic.

I finished second in my T4 class and have applied to UCONN Law. Nothing special about me other than the fact that I won for best trial brief in our LRW moot court assignment.

Any stories or information from recent UCONN transfers?

What school you transferred from and class rank.

General Board / OCI listing website

A while back I stumbled across a site that listed the employers that attend OCI for each school. Does anybody know what that website might be?

Thanks.

General Board / To Transfer Or Not To Transfer?
« on: June 15, 2007, 08:07:18 PM »
Here's the situation. I wasn't smart enough to do well on the LSAT, however I nailed my 1L year at a T4 finishing 2nd in the class. The T4 is across the boarder from the state I reside in and wish to practice in post graduation, but is generally well received in my state. I'll most likely be on law review, etc.

I'm considering transferring to a T1 within my state of residence. In transferring, I would lose my class standing and all other benefits associated w/ that class standing - however I'll have the benefit of attending a T1 in the state I wish to practice in.

I anticipate receiving merit based scholarships at my current school, and should I transfer I will be paying resident tuition rates - so as far as tuition it will most likely be a wash whether I stay or go.

As far as in what capacity I wish to practice (local biglaw vs. med/small law); I'm not yet sure.

In researching local biglaw firms, I've observed that many associates come from both the local T1 and the T4 I currently attend, however almost all of the associate coming from the T4 were top of the class, etc.

I guess this is a moot point - however what would others do in this situation?

General Board / any T4 to low T1 transfer stories
« on: January 23, 2007, 09:05:04 PM »
Hi everyone -  I guess the is the start of your rags to riches story - law school edition.

LSAT was a nightmare for me - took it twice - got a 147 first time around, scored a 149 second time around. Someone must have been smiling on me one day, becuase I was accepted to a T4 in Massachusetts last fall.

I'm currently enrolled in the PT program, and mid-term grades have been released. I scored a 90 in CivPro, 92 in Contracts, 93 in LRW and 94 in Torts. I would have chalked it up to luck if it weren't for the consistency in my grades.

Here is my question - assuming I can keep up my level of performance, what do people think my chances are in transferring to UCONN Law (#50 ranking) next fall?

General Board / I hate Civ Pro
« on: October 11, 2006, 02:54:08 PM »
Need to vent. I loathe Civ Pro. I hate the cases. It's so boring. Ugh! Jurisdiction sucks. Can't the damn case book editors add some spice to it?

Thanks for listening. Back to BURGER KING v. RUDZEWICZ (You knew it had to be a Polok).

Western New England / Accepted student 2006
« on: April 25, 2006, 11:41:49 AM »
I'll be attending this fall. I wanted to see if there's any other LSD'ers out there planning on attending. Did anyone go to WNEC's open house?

I'd also appreciate any current student's insights.

General Board / Are there any WNEC Law students posting here?
« on: March 20, 2006, 02:04:09 PM »
Does anybody have any first hand experience with the school?

How is the job placement (in Hartford, CT area)?
How would you rank the quality of the professors and administration staff? Are they helpful?
What is your overall impression of the school?
Any experience with extra curriculars? (Review, clinics, clubs?)

Anything else you may wish to share?

Thanks!

I was accepted to and am considering attending WNEC Law. I live in CT so I presume I'll have a decent shot on job placement depending on how I preform in law school, but with this aside, what are people's impressions about the school? Any insight would be greatly appreciated, especially if anyone has any experience with the school's clinics, simulations and networking opportunities.

Thanks!
