How many hornbooks and commercial outlines should people use for each of their 1L classes? Thanks

Incoming 1Ls / Brushing up my writing skills
« on: April 23, 2009, 01:56:49 PM »
What would be a good way for me to begin learning legal writing? I know that legal writing is completely different than the type of writing I did for my Political Science degree. Are there any books or classes I should take over the summer so that I know what the hell I'm doing legal writing wise before my 1L year? Thanks

Incoming 1Ls / Anyone heard of this program? Would you recommend it?
« on: April 16, 2009, 03:34:52 PM »

I got something in the mail today advertising this program. Getting a taste of what law school will be like could be advantageous, but there are some obvious red flags. I've heard that similar programs like Law Preview were lemons that exist solely to cash-in on 0L insecurity. Does this seem legit or should I not waste my $50 (which is really cheap compared to similar programs)?

Hi all, I'll be starting school in the fall. I want to buy different hornbooks and other study aids now so that I'll have stuff ready for my 1L classes. How many extra books would you all recommend for each of the 1L classes? I know in LSC, the author recommended that people only buy 1 extra book due to time issues preventing people from using more than 1 book for each subject.

Also, which book(s) should I buy for each 1L class? Thanks in advance

I've heard that many law students spend 5-8 hours a day studying (not including in-class time). Is this an accurate estimate for the time required for most law students to spend studying? I'm curious about this because I want to start planning ahead so that I'll know which of my leisure activities I need to sacrifice for the greater cause. Thanks in advance

Incoming 1Ls / Good legal writing manual

Hi all, what manual(s) would you recommend for a 0L to read to begin learning legal writing skills before the fall semester? Thanks in advance

Current Law Students / How to dress like a law student
« on: February 10, 2009, 08:12:25 AM »
What types of clothes should a law school student wear? Except for stuff I wear when exercising or special occasions, my wardrobe is all jeans, hiking boots, and button-down shirts (long sleeved). I imagine that I'll have to ditch the boots in favor of stuff like dress shoes, but would the button-down shirts and jeans be acceptable to wear to classes? How many suits should a law student own? I currently have 1 black suit and a charcoal colored suit.

I was wondering if people transferring out of a school is factored in for a school's attrition rate. Thanks

Incoming 1Ls / What to do during my 0L Spring and Summer
« on: January 21, 2009, 04:29:21 PM »
What would be wise uses of my time as a 0L during the Spring and Summer before my 1L year begins? I'm currently employed as a librarian (times are hard  :D ) and was just curious as to how I should prepare for beginning law school. Thanks

I plan on doing all my apps online, but I'm not sure how to display the heading of my PS. My PS is literally 2-pages with no extra on the bottom of my word processor. I've heard that on every document that is a part of the app, one should put their name and LSAC number on the document. If I do that with my PS, my PS will overflow into a 3rd page, a violation of the 2-page rule. What should I do about it if I can't trim my PS down any? Thanks
