Law Firms / paris offices?
« on: November 02, 2008, 05:49:41 PM »
i'm technically pre-law, just started getting accepted to schools about a week ago. however, where i decide to go depends majorly on... if it would benefit me to have a french law degree or not. i'm planning on asking for a deferral so i can come back to france next year and be completely fluent, after which i plan on pursuing a j.d./maître en droit. however, i want to practice for an american firm... with a paris office. i've done a bit of research, but, in your general experience, do several firms have offices abroad? and how hard are they to get into at that? and would it really benefit me to have a french law degree in order to work at that firm, or would being fluent in french be enough?

i appreciate all the help!

So.. I started applying to law schools then came to France, fell in love (with France, that is), blah blah blah. As I won't really ever have another chance to do this, I'm applying for a yearlong teaching assistantship to teach English in underprivileged French schools through the French Embassy. However, I really, really do not want to go through the admissions process all over again for law school. Having gotten my first acceptance Friday (UCLA, woooo!), I need to start thinking about an admissions deferral. How easy is it to get one? Does anyone have experience with this? I would be megasad if I didn't get a deferral and had to nix France, because I'd already have committed myself to that school.. right? Is it beneficial to ask the school before accepting? Baaah! Any info at all is appreciated.

Law School Applications / Why would the Dean of Admissions call you?
« on: October 24, 2008, 12:59:21 PM »
So.. I'm abroad in Paris, so all my phone calls/mail from law schools are being forwarded to me by dear ole mum. Today UCLA's Dean of Admissions called me and I'm having a difficult time getting back in touch with him.. and it seems he's leaving town in a few hours! So, I mean, why would an admissions department call you? Did I do something horribly wrong? Would they ever call you just because something is incomplete or anything like that? Would they call you with questions, etc? AHHHHHHH

Law School Applications / i did something bad..
« on: October 01, 2008, 03:15:26 PM »
so..... sort of distracted over here in paris, i feel proud of myself when i submit ANY law school app. the thing is.. on my personal statement, i'm all like la la la i'm so great blah blah, and then it says

"which is why i'd be a great law student at university of michigan law school."

....which, of course, i meant to send to university of michigan. however.. i saved it as an available document and have now sent that there closing sentence to georgetown, notre dame, texas, washington university, and duke. ouch.

is this fairly common, stupid little mistakes like this, or is this reeeeally really bad? should i just give up hope on those schools to which i've already applied? i'm so damn ditzy.. meh.

Law School Applications / Electronic Signature?
« on: September 17, 2008, 01:28:49 PM »
So I just sent my UT Austin app in, and, as usual, there was no little yellow box for a signature.. As I was checking out, LSAC asked me to click some button that said I authorize them to send it, etc. etc. Is that the same as an electronic signature?

Law School Applications / Oh Michigan..
« on: September 13, 2008, 06:47:12 AM »
OK, so, this is the third time I have asked this, and I hope to get a reply this time, hah. I'm studying abroad in Paris, and trying to simultaneously submit my law school apps (Future word of advice: don't do it. Everyday it's like.. Do I want to go eat pastries with French boys or write about overcoming obstacles in my life, blah blah blah? Hmmmm.. toughie). Michigan had an additional doc that was basically the rights waiver to the letters of recommendation. LSDAS says you must print and send in all additional docs, but the Michigan thing said you could find the rights waiver on LSAC.org. However.. I have searched and searched, and come up with nothing. Someone pleeeeeeease help meeeee. I really, really don't want to go spend 5€ at an internet café when I could do it for free online!

Law School Applications / Try, try again.. LOR Rights Waiver??
« on: September 07, 2008, 01:49:22 PM »
OK, so.. hello from Paris! I am applying to UMich as we speak, and one of the supplementary documents is an LOR rights waiver, stating that I wave my right to access them. It says that, instead of having to use theirs, you can use LSAC's, but... I can't find LSAC's anywhere. Basically, I really don't want to have to somehow find a printer in Paris, pay a ton to mail it off, and hope it actually makes it there. So can someone tell me how to find the LSAC doc? I asked this same question a few days ago and didn't get any responses  :(
