Choosing the Right Law School / No MacBooks at NYU
« on: June 23, 2006, 11:59:31 AM »
    [If there's already a thread on this...sorry.  I didn't see it.]

[rant]What the heck is NYU thinking not allowing MacbookPro's for exams?  I got an IBM because I thought this would probably happen, but I still think the policy is ridiculous.  It seems to me that NYU is more concerned about the miniscule risk of students using the new technology to cheat than they are about helping students use the best technology possible to learn about the law. It is just the kind of ultra-conservative reaction that one expects out of an unwieldy bureaucracy--it would have been a great PR move, not to mention a move for better education, to allow the Macbooks. Incoming 1Ls / Bottom line on MacbookPro for NYU?
« on: April 12, 2006, 10:37:11 AM »
I e-mailed NYU some months ago about their windows-based PC laptop requirement and the new MacbookPro.  The IT department apparently didn't understand the question, and sent me a non-response.  Does anyone know what the deal here is?  Can I use examsoft on the new macs or what?

Gotta cash in my chips today if I want NYU $.  I'm about to push the intent to enroll button.  So close...

[I'm interested in PI--probably working with chinese immigrants, or criminal work, or possibly work in an international organization like da UN/WTO/MSF etc.]

Someone talk me out of it.

What kind of stats does it take to get invited to apply?

Law School Admissions / Help! Weird NYU e-mail
« on: January 20, 2006, 12:18:20 PM »
So, I got an e-mail from NYU saying that they had receieved my scholarship application and will be considering it soon.  Which is great...except that I didn't apply for any scholarships.  Anybody know what's going on with this?  Just an administrative error?  Did anyone else get this e-mail?

Choosing the Right Law School / Does anyone have better LARP than NYU?
« on: January 02, 2006, 12:10:55 PM »
From my research, none of the schools I applied to has better loan repayment than NYU.  NYU has the highest threshold, the best pro-rates above the threshold, and after five years everything is reimbursed and future repayments are grants instead of loans.

Best I can tell, this is slightly better than Columbia, way better than Chicago or Boalt or UVA.

Am I missing something?

Toward the end of my conclusion, I write, "...and perhaps even help the occasional visitor who is in over her head."  I used "her" to avoid the awkwardness of "his or her" or "his/her," but since it's the only use of such a pronoun in my essay, I fear that it will come across as misogynistic (as in, I can help the helpless woman).  Am I making this up?

(As much as it might seem like it, this is not a flame of PC word politics, I'm just trying not to offend a potential feminist adcomm.)
