Toward the end of my conclusion, I write, "...and perhaps even help the occasional visitor who is in over her head." I used "her" to avoid the awkwardness of "his or her" or "his/her," but since it's the only use of such a pronoun in my essay, I fear that it will come across as misogynistic (as in, I can help the helpless woman). Am I making this up?
(As much as it might seem like it, this is not a flame of PC word politics, I'm just trying not to offend a potential feminist adcomm.)
