Current Law Students / Loan Forgiveness and Public Service
« on: June 20, 2010, 11:15:16 AM »
I wanted to throw this question out there because I cannot seem to find an answer.  If you do 3 yrs of clerkships and then 7 yrs public service (DOJ is the goal) have you reached the 10 yr mark for loan forgiveness?  I feel like someone told me the clerkships yrs don't count.  Maybe I am confusing it with my schools LRAP, which does not cover clerkships.

I haven't started calling direct loans or anything to get the official answer (if someone will actually do that there  . . . I really dislike dealing with people hired to handle this stuff, no one seems to have an answer) but I thought maybe someone here has had confronted this problem or knows the answer.

Current Law Students / Hey Ladies . . . Where do you buy your suits?
« on: January 28, 2009, 04:13:40 PM »
I have been looking for a good woman's skirted suit for a long time. I just bought one that will do, it looks nice but I am still not 100% happy and this is the first one I have found that was acceptable for a long time. I think the problem is that the new trend is the pencil skirts which, unless you are really tall and skinny, I think can look slutty.

Anyone know where to find a conservative suit?

Current Law Students / Should I travel to India?
« on: November 29, 2008, 11:32:02 AM »
Ok, this has nothing to do with Law school other than it was my plan for winter break. I have a trip planned to India from Dec. 13-29th. We are going because I (random white american) married and Indian guy and we are having a wedding reception in New Dehli so I can meet my husbands extended family. My sister and mother will be going, as well as four of our friends (all white). My husbands immediate family is traveling over there as well.

Our plan is too spend most of our time in New Dehli where most of the family is and where the reception will be located. We will travel on day trips to Agra (Taj Mahal, not the hotel) and Jaipur. The last five days we will be in Goa (a couple of hours from Mumbai on the coast).

Would you cancel this trip given the awful attacks in Mumbai? What is most unnerving is the terrorist targeted Westerners and we will be travel with a small group of clearly western people. We are not staying in luxury hotels like Taj or even going to Mumbai but we are going to to some tourist destinations, like the Taj Mahal and the palaces at Jaipur.

I know this is a really random question but I am trying to make a difficult decision so any input is much appreciated.

Current Law Students / 168, 3.6 gpa Rejected everywhere
« on: May 01, 2008, 06:23:55 AM »
Hi guys. This question is not for me, it is for a friend because I don't know what to tell her at this point. so here is her story:

I have a friend who has a 168 and a 3.6 gpa and is being turned down everywhere. She applied to mostly DC schools (that is where she is from so she wants to be there) and has been turned down everywhere: American, GW, GULC. I think she was wait listed at Catholic. I know she applied to some other random schools maybe in NY but I don't remember off hand but she has been rejected. This is why: she has had 3 pot possessions on her record and was caught shoplifting when she was 18. The university she went to she failed out because she was in a very rough patch of her life. All of this criminal record stuff was a long time ago and is so far from the person she is today that I feel bad it is having such an adverse effect on her. She is very intelligent and I know she will be a good lawyer. So I think she is going to attempt next year, but I am  not sure what will change in a year because the criminal record will not just disappear.

So what should she do? call admissions office and try to talk to someone to find out why she was turned down? She did write an addendum which was short and said that she takes responsibility for her past but it no way reflects her now. Keep in mind, she is 25 now, and this all happened when she was like 18. It was so long ago.

Any advice can give me to tell he, I would appreciate it greatly. Thanks!
