Financial Aid / Vandy Scholarships/Fin Aid
« on: February 28, 2006, 03:00:03 PM »
I was just wondering if anyone has heard anything about the merit & honor scholarships and fellowships at Vandy.  I was hoping that they'd have been mailed by now, but so far, I haven't heard of anyone receiving anything.  Does anyone know when we can start expecting to hear something?

Law School Applications / UT-Austin
« on: January 24, 2006, 07:02:51 PM »
Has anyone heard anything from UT lately?  I submitted my app just after the EA deadline (in mid November) and so far I've only gotten a complete.  Judging by LSN, no one's heard anything since mid/late December.  Anyone want to predict when we'll start hearing again?  I'm hoping next week is the lucky one.

Law School Applications / GULC status checker
« on: January 06, 2006, 08:55:59 AM »
Is anyone else having problems with the status checker today?  I just tried to check mine, and it said "unavailable" and it couldn't locate my record... which is a bit odd considering it's said "complete" for over a month.  I'm just wondering if this is something I need to call/email the admissions people about or if it's a system malfunction.   :-\

Law School Applications / Columbia - this week?
« on: December 06, 2005, 11:03:15 AM »
I was looking on LSN and the first date of Columbia ED decisions last year was Dec. 8.  Maybe they'll stick to a similar schedule this year, although the best I'm hoping for is a "hold" over to regular.  It'd still be nice to know something soon!

Law School Applications / Another Columbia ED question
« on: November 10, 2005, 04:01:54 PM »
Someone on another post asked if applying ED to Columbia would hurt someone if there numbers were not stellar, or auto-admit.  I was just curious if ya'll think that's true.  I'm definitely at their 25% range, and it's a long reach, but I was hoping applying ED would help, not hurt my application.  Has anyone heard or experienced something that would suggest otherwise?

Personal Statement / Quotes
« on: November 02, 2005, 10:45:22 AM »
What's the policy on quotes in a PS?  If I mention the book it's from, do I still need to cite it?  How would I even do that?  a footnote at the bottom perhaps?  Or are quotes in a PS just a bad idea?

Personal Statement / Politics in PS
« on: October 31, 2005, 01:27:13 PM »
I'm wondering if I should include my political activism in my PS, since I've volunteered and interned on several campaigns and my first "real" job after grad was on a campaign.  Do you think it will offend or 'turn off' adcomms who may be of another persuasion?  Any insight is most appreciated!  Thanks!

Law School Applications / Resume Order
« on: October 12, 2005, 03:49:55 PM »
Since I've been working the past year or so since graduation, I'm questioning how I should orient my resume.  On my resumes for employment, I've generally had work experience first, before education, but now I'm not sure about how to organize it for applications.  I could put education first, but then after I included honors, activities, awards, etc in that category, I'd be at the end of pg 1/pg 2 before I got to work experience, which is probably more relevant to a future career as an attorney.  What do y'all think?  Education, then WE or WE, then Education?
